Re: dual circuit brakes
I had a couple of VWs, that split diagonally and I remember they did it that way from the start. My late model MG Midget and my mother's BGT are, like my last two Minis, split front/rear.

I scanned this, recalling this thread and then saw that it was concerning gold seal colour. However, having scanned it, it may be useful to some!!

Re: dual circuit brakes
I took the attached photo some years ago. The pedal box and pedals of a Marina had been fitted. Not sure if I will ever get around to doing this and I'd want it to be a tidier job. Of course the handbrake is a kind of dual circuit.

Re: Marina diff drain plug
Rather than start a new thread, is the Marina axle compatible with the Minor? In other words, are the half shafts the same size (Wheel size different but not sure on wheel stud PCD)? My car has standard half shafts and whilst I don't do quick starts, it has 77bhp, not the 48 it had when it was new. ...

Re: Safety in mind
Not see this topic before. I don't think a battery isolater has been listed but well worth it. Having been present, when something shorted out, does it all go up fast (I was lucky to have a wire cutter on hand)!! Most cut outs are bypassed with a fuse, that blows if a high loading is put on it. I re...

Re: Adderley Park Built Minor's
I found an invoice, dated 1991, which includes a car alarm. There is no mention of a conversion to negative earth and the alarm would have been based on negative earth. I have never had a car alarm (Had an immobiliser that failed and was removed; most of my anti theft devices are known to me only) a...

Re: Adderley Park Built Minor's
My Traveller (1293704F) is negative earth and I understood this was normal for late cars. I have a file of invoices, from when the car was new and there is no mention of it having been converted to negative earth. Were any late Minors built with negative earth and if so, from what point (I know Adde...

Re: 2nd gear crunch
My 1275 Midget has a similar box to the 1098 Minor and I often find it better to select 2nd before first or reverse (When at rest), neither of which have synco. Not having the slow running set too high also helps.

Re: 2nd gear crunch
If your gearbox is original, it will have the smooth case. The syncromesh isn't so good as on later 1098 (Ribbed case gearboxes). People sometimes use second, rather than change into first, since to change into first, on the move, requires you to double de clutch. You could try that to ease your gea...

If you have a good sample, a spectrometer can be used to make a match. I wonder whether British Motor Heritage would know?

Re: Annual Insurance Fun.
I think it is all because modern insurance companies use a standard computer system that has no box to tick for classic cars like ours. Every minor on the road, including mine, has been modified but the youngsters filling in the forms have no concept of this...... Flow chart mentality, badly progra...
Re: Cameras
I have front and rear facing cameras on my bicycle (Following an incident where I had to defend myself against physical assault...successfully I might add) and I fancy that other road users are more aware of such things nowadays, as you don't see quite as many passing within inches, as you once did ...

Re: Fuel.
In the absence of knowing, best to play safe but cork gaskets (Along with many things) have been highlighted as problematic. Hopefully, given time, better understanding will be obtained and changes made but I think it best to avoid ethanol as much as possible and to take steps to combat it.

Re: Hello
If you don't need the extra space of the Traveller (Since you have the Land Rover), there is no wood to rot on a saloon. All Minors are old but perhaps not old bangers, as some would have been forty or fifty years ago. The VW Beetle was a tough and well made car (I think in terms of rust proofing/pa...

Re: Fuel.
Modern fuel goes off quicker than old four star ever did and ethanol is much of the reason. Although I have lead free heads, I use https://www.millersoils-shop.co.uk/vspe-power-plus-multishot , simply to combat the adverse effects of ethanol (Like damaging the cork seal around the fuel gauge sender)...

Re: Merry Christmas
A bit late in the day but best wishes to all Minor addicts (And classic car addicts generally). After three dreadful Christmases (Father died, then cat died, then had covid and as a consequence of being laid low, a bad back), this year has been a pleasant change, even though what has happened cannot...

Re: Door Mirrors
I use MG Midget mirrors. The mirrors are the same as MGB mirrors but the mounting is different, since the MGB doorskin slopes in more. It requires two holes to be drilled in the door. beware (I can't get the b to become B :-? )that some kits come with a nasty plastic base, where the "Wedge"...

Re: Any Volvo 240 owners here?
I was looking for a photo of my father's first MGB GT V8 (Which I am hoping to trace) and came across these of the Volvo. It's hard to credit how much time has passed since those days. If I had room to keep it (It was a good four feet longer than the Morris), I wouldn't mind that car back, though I ...

Re: Any Volvo 240 owners here?
My father had a new 245DL in 1975. If I could have changed anything, I'd have added the optional overdrive and perhaps an extra carb but it was an excellent car. I do believe it's boot was bigger than my Traveller's boot . Mind you, it took up a lot of room in the garage.

Re: Worrying
The village idiots will foul it up and everyone will grind to a halt. I don't think it will make any difference to my collectors policy. I think we have more to worry about from certain politicians I could mention, such as those who think that a blanket 20mph speed limit will solve the problem of pe...
