Gone to the magical post box in the sky.
Could anyone suggest who I might need to talk to regarding some regalia items that were posted in March but have not arrived. I have tried sending emails to the merchandise@... address but no response. Given the amount of Austrian mail we get here in Australia, I reckon some bloke in Vienna has my M...

-ve earth to +ve earth conversion.
G'day All, I have just been given a brand new generator, unfortunately it is -ve earth and my car is +ve earth. I know there is a way to reverse the polarity. Firstly:
How do you do it?
Secondly:
Is it a good idea or is it going to cause problems?

Re: Reground, crank duff?.
I had a similar experience. The new crank rocked noticably before I had even put the main bearing caps on. With them on and the bolt finger tight the whole thing was seized. I thought I was losing my mind, how could this be possible with a newly re-ground crankshaft? Took it to a local engineering f...

I got one of these for my brother, and put it together for him. Good fun. A good starting point for anyone wondering about how an internal combustion engine works.

Two questions.
Is it possible to replace the gearbox mounts without removing said gearbox?
Is it possible to change the steering rack gaiters without removing the steering rack?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Can a crank be straightened?
G'day all, I recently purchased a recon crankshaft from the UK, unfortunately it would appear that somewhere along it's journey here it has had a slight tumble. As a result, it would appear that it is ever so slightly bent, not discernible to the naked eye but blindingly obvious when fitted to the c...

Ear Splitting Brake Squeal
My car has recently developed an unbelievably loud brake squeal from the front brakes. About 12 months ago I replaced the drums and shoes front and rear and all was well. I last adjusted the brakes in January and recently the squeal has started. I took the drums off and gave everything a good clean,...

Agreed. Never seems to do any harm.bmcecosse wrote:Yes - just a wipe over with any clean grease. I'm not sure exactly what it does - but I was taught to do it, and have always done so - and not had any problems!

Re: Aftermarket gauges
Is the combined gauge mechanical or electric? I currently have a mechanical oil pressure gauge and a capillary temp gauge, if the Smith's temp/press is the same I might look at getting one. Looks quite smart.

30-33 degrees every day here. Keep moving is my advice. Have the drivers window all the way down and the passengers side at 2/3, creates a nice air current in the car.

Take a torch as well. Invariably, everything that goes wrong with my car (a rare occurrence, mind you) always happens at night in the most poorly lit area of any given road in the land.

Re: Coke to release frozen parts????
In my Army days, I used to put the brass buckles and keepers on my belt in a cup of Coke about a week out from any big parades. It got rid of any pits and scratches and made the brass shiny as new. Being young and stupid I failed to even consider what it might have been doing to my insides.
