Missing page from AKD 3541 Mechanical Service Parts List

Post by PhilAllen »

Not quite 3 years after buying it as a project, I got my Minor back on the road 10 days ago. A great feeling of achievement! It's been off the road since 2003 though so now I'm using it I'm finding one or two "teething problems" and had one over the weekend with the brakes not fully releasing. That's now sorted (not enough free play on the brake pedal so unable to release the pressure), but in looking through the parts list I downloaded as a pdf just to remind myself what was where, I realised that plate M2 which should face page MM3 is missing from the file I downloaded. I've had a search this evening and every copy I can find online has the same problem. I wondered if anyone who has a paper copy of the parts list could scan the page and send it to me please. I have the ability to insert it into my copy and would then be happy to send a complete manual to anyone else with the same missing page.

For anyone interested, this is it on it's first time out on the road.

What a beautiful Moggy, you have done a fantastic job there and so nice to see the original reflective number plates retained. I wish you many miles of happy motoring!

My copy is a downloaded copy, I can’t see anything missing on mine apart from page letter/numbers, are you missing the page marked with E0949 that contains three master cylinder kits and remote reservoir, pdf page No 234

Thanks for the replies so far.
Jowett: My Dad had a new car in 1969 (an Austin 1800 S!) and I remember the dealer being proud of fitting it with new reflective plates. I had to get replacements for my car, but I felt as that is what it's always had I'd keep the same.
StillGotMy1stCar: No, I've got that diagram, it's the one before it I'm missing. I have one marked B6904 with master cylinder and brake pedal and part numbers from 1-29 which are described on the adjoining page. I then have another text page describing items 1-38, item 1 being Master cylinder assembly 17H 6613, it's the diagram for this page that I'm missing. Diagram E0949 is the diagram after that. My pages 232 and 233 are both text, but there should be a diagram between them.

I agree. There are only 4 Plates (illustrations) listed and there are 4 different ones in section MM.

by deduction, this is Plate M2 and Page MM3...
Items 1, 8 and 16, the repair kits.

Thanks Geoberni. Maybe I'm confusing myself then, I've got 2 text pages without an image between which doesn't occur anywhere else that I've seen so I assumed something was missing.
Do you have 2 copies of the previous plate (logically M1) with a master cylinder and the brake pedal before the image you've pasted? I only have 1 facing page MM1, then page MM2 follows. That still seems a bit odd as MM1 lists parts 1-29 (matching M1) and MM2 1-38. Everywhere else I've looked the diagram matches what the text page shows. Maybe this is the exception that proves the rule!

I admit as a general rule, the diagram is repeated so the person flicking through the paper manual has the illustration showing against the parts list at every turn.
But in this case, only the Pipework and Handbrake drawings appear twice, presumably M3 and M4.

It was probably an error that crept into the manual in the early days of printing it that just never got corrected, because it was such a small section of the book it wasn't worth the effort.

You’re right the text of pdf page No 233 doesn’t correspond with the image of plate M1 or M2.
But look what I’ve found:-

There should be plate M2 and M2.1
As you say it needs someone with the latest paper copy.

But as I posted earlier, 234 matched 235...

it's all semantics really, since you can no longer walk into a Morris/BL Dealer and ask for parts.
You simply have to go with whatever the current suppliers of parts offer.
So does it really make any difference.....

Thanks Geoberni and John.
I'd not spotted the entry in the revisions part.
The problem isn't on pages 234 and 235, mine match the same as the ones you posted, but plate 2.1 would (I think) fit between pages 232 and 233.
You're right, it doesn't matter as far as ordering parts goes, but I've found the diagrams really useful while rebuilding a car I bought in a fairly dismantled state as it was really good for seeing both what some of the things I had unlabelled in boxes actually were and also gave me an idea of how they fitted together. It may be there's nothing on M2.1 that would be relevant, but it irritates me that I'm missing it just in case.

If anyone with a paper copy that contains it could scan a copy of plate M2.1 I'd appreciate it.
