Engine prefix

Post by les »

Can anyone tell me the first part of the engine number for an A plus 1275 Marina engine please? Maybe something like ——12v or similar.

Thanks for your prompt reply Phil, I’m trying to purchase some good quality cam bearings, the company I’m dealing with wants to know such details, although I have already sent some quite comprehensive information.

The British Leyland (BL) part number for a set of Marina/Ital camshaft bearings is 28G133.
Interestingly the same camshaft bearings are fitted to the 1098cc Marina engine.

I have a new set of camshaft bearings GLACIER Pt No: C3046S Standard which I purchased to go into a Marina/Ital block. They are branded as suitable for Austin, MG, Mini & Morris.
Here is a set for sale:-

Note the 0.010" undersize though.

Try this company

Camshaft bearings Pt No: EG0455 @ £23.37.

Thanks again, useful info. I’ll wait for a reply from the company I approached, before going further. I’m keen to buy a reputable brand like Glacier, AE or Glyco, I need Standard size.

Another query please, bought these cam bearings but labelled for 1098. Company say they are the same for a 1275 A+ series but I’m sure I’m right in saying they are different?

The part number taken from the BL parts list gives the same part number for both 1098cc and 1275cc engines.
So long as you line up the oil holes with those in the block you should have no problems.

Well that is strange, because talking to someone who sells a similar set for the A series, I was informed that although both sets will fit, one of the bearings ( the oil pump end) is narrower for the 1098, and this is confirmed by comparing the set I’ve been sent, to the set I have removed. In fact I now have the correct part number for the 1275 ACL set,
1098——-3C4095
1275——-3C4099
Looks like I might have a struggle convincing the company that sent the 1098 set !

The length of the rear camshaft bearing as fitted to my spare 1275cc Midget engine is 20mm.
The length of the small bore block rear camshaft bearings (were fitted) is approx 14mm x 39mm O.D.
Have a look at these links:-
http://www.minispares.com/search/classi ... rings.aspx
https://www.somerfordmini.co.uk/catalog ... ft+bearing
They give details of the various camshaft bearings.

Yep, that’s the difference. The company has been in touch, and agree they sent the wrong ones, at least that saves any disputes. I’ve had to cough up again, plus an extra 2 quid, you’d think they’d cover that bit extra, plus I’ve got to pay return postage, then when they get the bearings back, I’ll get a refund.

I note from the links above that some 1275cc Automatics have the smaller rear camshaft bearing which I find odd.
