Geoberni seems to think that this stamped number could be 6 inches long but I disagree.
No, I'm just saying that's what my '55 SII is like; that's all.
I was most impressed by the very neat one you illustrated and saying mine was the same area, just not as neat.

Yes those are definately leather seat covers...use some saddle soap to clean then some hide food to soften them and stop cracks and splits..
Bought some auto glym leather cleaner to try, they are quite supple just have some dirt and marks. Thanks for the advice
It is well worth using some good quality leather products on those seats in order to preserve them. They look to be in remarkably good original condition
They are exactly the same seats as my 1960 car has. Yours are a little less worn than mine
Deluxe models of Minor 1000 at that stage had leather seat facings. The standard model had the same style and colours but with vinyl facings.

LCV change 948 to 1098 cab codes "Z32". (9/62),
Think the DP Mk1's were "Z33", "Z35" floorpan VIN stamp, although, MAT5's body codes lagged behind after 1961.
Don't have book with me to cross reference body number, so bear with me.....can get awfully confusing at times.
I think we will probably conclude that the car in the photos dates from late 1962 or 1963 prior to the change to tanden wipers and the deletion of the DB10 unit in October of that year. The body number quoted is later than that of an early 1962 car I have and much later than my late 1960 car which has a later chassis number than this car is wearing. It could likely be an early 1098 (MAS5) car couldn't it.
Although the owner says that Charles Ware never mentioned any issue, he did date the car as "1962" didn't he.
Curiously Charles Ware stated 1962 on 1st valuation and 1960 on all subsequent.
So on this picture no obvious stamped numbers, if this is definitely the place between bonnet release and throttle then I am going to scrape the paint away to see if anything visible.
Don't quote me 100% on this as I cannot access current database due to PC being U/S.....following from 2016 print-out;
Approx March/April(ish) 1963 going by body number, looking for a VIN around the 1017000-1019000(ish) mark.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

The number on your picture is partially hidden by what looks to be a battery cable which a previous owner has re-routed across it - possibly to a cut-of switch perhaps? You will have to move that in order to check for the number but it should be there exactly as shown in the picture I attached earlier of another car of similar age.
