As there is still a problem with sending PM's, could everyone let me know if they would like to meet up at the White Heart, and if so, at what sort of time. Perhaps we could also have bite to eat?Judge wrote:The White Heart sounds fine to me, and if we can all agree a time for the Wednesday night, it would be a good venue for discussing the final details.trenowin wrote:How about the White Heart at Ludgvan just off the A30 about 2 miles East of Penzance - a good Cornish pub serves a particularly good pint of real ale, a proper pub not one of those up-country gastro pubs! Let me know what your ETA in Penzance might be.

I'm planning to post regular brief updates by mobile phone text message over on my blog (note: they won't be tagged until I have Internet access again). Perhaps somebody could copy them onto this thread as they appear?

Well... Land's End hasn't changed much since I was last there... not exactly my idea of good value for money (£3 just to park, or £12.50 to stand right next to the signpost for a photo...)
If anyone has time, you could make your own "Orkney ###miles" signpost?! There are plenty of white flagpoles to cable tie it on to...
Sorry to miss the group photo at the start, but have started without you all - but will hopefully see you all on the way to Orkney

If you're making a sign, don't forget to put "Land's End: x miles" on the back so we can use it again when we reach OrkneyJudge wrote:Unless I'm over-ruled, I think we'll be taking our own sign However hopefully it doesn't cost anything to set off from the 'starting' line.

Way hey! Good on yer.Unless I'm over-ruled, I think we'll be taking our own sign
I've nothing against people providing a service for a sensible amount of money but £12.50 for 30 seconds work to slide some letters onto a signpost is IMHO the kind of thing that gives our country a bad name.
If it had been £3 they'd take just as much money (maybe more) and more people would have a personalised Lands End momento (but they'd have to work more than 30 seconds every half hour...)
Hmm - I think I'm in grumpy old man mode

Good Luck All
hope you bring the weather with you !
Pleased to report that normality has resumed here RE the foot & mouth, animals etc, for a few days there it was looking dicey as to whether the shows were taking place at all, could have been problems camping too if there were restrictions - but alls fine. Was no point in speculating or worrying until it had sorted itself out.
See you all when you get off the boat !!!

Well. An eventful start to the trip. First off, many thanks to tremowin for organising a fabulous spread at the White Hart last night. Much appreciated. my exhaust broke again at the manifold on the way to lands end. I drove all the way from Plymouth to LE and back as far as Taunton with a car that sounded like a tractor! Then at Tauntom the car wouldn't start. To cut a long story short after 2 hrs fiddling we decided that the float chamber was over filling thus flooding the carb. 2 very nice men from a well known breakdown firm towed to ******** where big ginger helped us out with a 2nd hand 2 piece exhaust and float chamber needle. I am writing this at 62 mph on the M5 thanks to Andrew. You are an absolute star, cheers mate. Orkney here we come! Neil & Steph.
PS-big thanks also to Bill, Victoria, Onne, Alex, Lesley and an unknown biker for their help and moral support at Taunton during the dark moments when we thought we were out of it.
