Greetings!

Post by Steve_PFJ »

Hello,

This is my first post on here so i thought i should introdce myself. I'm Steve (as you've probably already figured) and I've recently bought a 1969 2 door Saloon...

...with the intention of full restoration. I've been reading this forum for a good few weeks now and recieved my club membership a couple of weeks ago. I bought the car in april and have started to strip it down, revealing sights I'm sure most of you have seen before...

...I'm looking forward to getting stuck in, I've done a lot of work on various other cars, rebuilds and engine rebuilds but this'll be my first full restoration. I'm new to welding so kinda thinking I've plunged myself in at the deep end a bit with this one :o

So anyway, there you go HI!. I'm here to pester you all with silly questions :P So please bare with me and I look forward to getting to know you guys.

The car looks very good on the outside, just goes to show you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

All the best with the restoration.

I'd rather 'bear' with you! :o

Sills and floors are all fixable, but don't underestimate it - thats probably well over a hundred hours for a novice.
I thoroughly recommend using a car roller - not only does it make the job quicker and can make the welding neater, but it certainly helps with motivation (ie not having to lie on the ground getting covered in sparks and welding spatter)

 Perhaps a little too soon for such invitations :P

I'll be rolling it over somehow to do the work, probably on a more spit like setup. Thankfully I do have the support of a friend who is an old hand at such things but do hope he's only there for guidance and i don't end up getting him to do it :-?

Thanks for the warm welcomes and thank you Kevin for the invite to the branch meet. That's not too far from me, I shall endevour to get down there for one soon.

Salutations!
Always amazes me how stunning a car can look ontop yet how rotton it can be underneath. As for those smegging sill box sections - welcome to the club!

Well done Steve. We like you found out the hard way that all Minors appear to rust "in the usual places". It's not until you start to strip down you find out the usual places are everywhere you can't see or polish.

Rich & I just want to wish you all the best. We are exactly in the same boat. Just finished the rear spring hangers & now need to start on the sills.

Can I highly recommend the 'Flying' post on this site and also the http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/ site, particularly the forum & tutorials.

Put another one back on the road & deprive the government of the road tax!!![/url]
