Not for the faint hearted!

Three short vids from the rolling road.

We only went to 60 mph which is 3800 rpm and 28 bhp at the wheels.

948 engine, 1098 cam, HS4 carb on MG inlet manifold and stardard Mini air filter. Timing 7 BFTDC. Carb Needle AAU

Turn your volume well up!

On the run up

On the run down

One unhappy dog!

Good grief Roger your dog has shrunk a bit
28bhp at the wheels doesnt say mush for the original figures does it.
So has the rolling road been worth it and how well does the car go compared to your old 1098cc Traveller.
Cheers

Thats is 28 at just under 4000 probably good for 45 at 6000. If you add in 15-20 bhp for the gearbox and dif that gives a repectable 60 -65 at the flywheel.

Its definatly quicker than the 1098 was, but it has the 4.55 diff. So the top speed isn't as good - probably only 80mph.

We didn't want to push it until its properly run in. I think I'll have another go in the Spring when its done a few more miles.

The biggest improvement is that it now sounds even and revs really freely.

The guy at the rolling road was very good, he tried about 6 needles before he was happy with it and tweeked the float chamber level so that the jet was at the right height etc. Most of the time he seemed to adjust it by ear.

In my experience a tweeked 948 really is a much nicer engine than a standard 1098.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

They are MP4 files you will need a player such as realplayer. They are quite big files so will take a little while to download.

The one I went to was near Leamington Spa - about 40 milesfrom me. What you want is a RR that does minis so that they will have all the needles they need to tune it. Try the minsport lads I guess.

Try right click and save target as. Neither of my computers would open the file from the page (Powerbook, running OSX 10.2 / Safari, or win 98 PC running Mozilla). However, right click and save target as and the file downloaded OK and opened in Quicktime - don't install Realplayer if you can help it, its horrid software.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
