Is the back end completely wooden, or just a different colour from the front? Looks great. :)

Dazed and Confused

Post by msppowers »

Now I am confused.. I find a chat board that I can follow and seems like everybody uses. I then find one (.morrisowners.co.uk) That seem to have many of the same people on it.... I wonder if I am going to have to post everything I do on my car on both.....I just don't to be redundant..
Thanks again

Here is my story. I bought a Traveller for $20 in 1971 but it had no current title. (The last owner of record had been dead 7 years). It had passed hand to hand to 7 different people b4 I got it. Back then its was ok to do that. . I drove it home. Parked it for 2 years and tried to get a title b4 I did any major work on it. Well the state of Texas said no way. I was young and poor back then so I took their word for it. I sold it for parts for $75.
Every since then I have longed for one. I saw this on in Calf. Now that I and old (still poor) I figured what the hell and for a very reasonable price I bought it.
It looked real good but had some hidden problems I discovered. I have been working on it for the last 2 month. I will Post my progress with comments, pictures, and a lot of questions

Wood Everywhere

Post by msppowers »

ImageImageImageImage[IMG]
Here are some pics of the car's wood. There is wood where there used to me metal.....As far as I can tell the panels ar just 1/8" plywood that has been varnished...(Go Figure)...They look good and should be cheap to replace if I need to.......You won't believe the color (The pic here does not reflect the REAL COLOR.)
The roof has a cloth covering on it. I will go into that later

It certainly look very smart - is the ply put on over the normal aluminium panels - or instead of them ? Someone has certainly put loads or effort into the job. In wet and windy UK they probably wouldn't last very long - but in Tx you have a chance.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

lovely car

Post by PatLazell »

ooooh! I love the wood, I threatened my husband last November when I got my Traveller that I wanted to have it more like the American Woodies of the Forties and Fifties and that I thought a wood veneer on the alliminium panels would look great, he just raised his eyes heavenwards and told me that I really must stop listening to that old 1940's and 50's Hillbilly and take up knitting!!! But now I can show him how good it can look. And I love the dark blue. well done :)

Bonjour Dan,
Welcome from me,
Are there many Moggies in France that you know about? I used to travel north to south every year in France and have never seen one.

Hi again - we went to Cheverny 2007 and stayed in our tent with my traveller called Vikki (below) - what colour was your Beetle? I remember there were 3 or 4 on the campsite?
