Ideas to attract new young blood into the MMOC

Post by Dean »

Ok, just incase anyone has missed the other topic. Basically there appears concern that we aren't attracting enough younger people into the world of the Morris Minor.

We need to remove this Miss Marple image the car unfortunately has. So please feel free to use this thread to discus ideas.

I have suggested similar rallies to VW's run to the sun in the summer at Newquay Cornwall.

I know it's maybe not right me stating this should be done when I know I'm not going to do it myself as I'm a student with no time on my hands but when I someday finally finish education I'd love to try and start a magazine or organise rallies for the younger generation. These would all of course be linked straight back to the main club.

Any more? :D

i went to both vanfest and santa pod(big bang) this year and both were really good events. had a cracking time, and on both occassions i had people coming up to me and saying how much they loved the car, would it be so inconceivable to try and merge a minor meet (modified or not) to a VW one?
i think, in general, if you like the shape of the minor, you like the shape of a beetle. the two could look great together on a run!
i believe the minor just doesn't have enough potential for a rally aimed at 0-30 year olds. on top of this, i do not see that as being fair or right. There idea should be about the car, not the driver. One of the things that got me into minors properly was flicking through my dads minor matters and seeing the picture of a black MM/early series II minor on the advert for *i think* AON. the modified minor in that pic is what i LOVED. up until then, i LIKED minors.
i don't know enough about the custom modified lot, but i would imagine if there was ever a rally that would be appreciated by the youths, that would be it. I would, i think be more interested in going to a modified minor meet(not exclusive obviously!!) than a "proper" meet. This makes it sound like i do not like standard minors, which is not true at all. i do like them, i just don't love them! same as beetles/campers/most fords. in standard form i see them as nice looking cars, not much more.
so...modified minor folk, get a rally up and running and i'll be there!
But of course...i will see you all at the national too!

Yes I think merging with a VW meet would be a brilliant idea.
I just don't whether the VW organisers would appreciate, should do, but I may look into that.

Sorry but looking at these ideas, I would ask you once again to look at the suggestions I have made previously

l would be more than happy to make some of this happen, BUT, I am not going to do it alone.

Age related would be laughable really. As i said, i think a modified rally would be good. But...how many of the big modded minors are owned by people under 30?? I think not many!
Judge, can you PM me with info on what you have suggested as i am interested in hearing it.

Bill, can you remind us of what suggestions you have made previously, preferably on the topics of discussion rather than a link to another page, just so that we can all know whats been said in a relevant context :D

I'd be more than happy to arrange a modified meet next year, alongside some dedicated trackdays.
I'm suprised that the 'modified and custom ' section has been so quiet after an initial good start.

I think young defines whoever feels so and is open minded, also the Minor has to get a So Cal look I think to attract younger generations, things like cool accessories would make the Minor more attractive like the clear lenses, angeleyes stuff like Moon Equipment, funky club logos etc! if you know what I mean :D

First I think young people should be welcome, of course, but
you could look upon clubs as having 'doors'. that tend to open at various ages for whatever reason (image etc), some club doors open earlier than others. If for example the Minor club 'door' tends to open later at, say 40, then everyone will get there at some point, and that's when they will come in,(or not) so what's the issue.
