Also a big thanks to Andy's parents for the loan of the big gazebo. With the 99% good weather it wasn't really needed but it's the thought that counts.
I thought it made an excellent car port though :D
Image
As people saw, we had both the 6 wheeler and the red cabriolet here this time. The little red car, Jemmy, has made her last trip for a little while. On the way home, she would fight to get 3rd and 4th. It seems the gearbox has finally given up. After 5 1/2 years of abuse, it is now time to sort out the gearbox and clutch. It will be a little while (finances) but she will return.

Steve, I have a used 1098 clutch that was working when I fitted my 1275 but I put a new one in anyway - You can have it for postage if it helps at all....?

Got back a few hours ago, super hot after getting stuck in the Glastonbury traffic but Snowdrop didn't let me down :D . Nice to see you all, sorry if I didn't get to say hello to some of you.

Big thanks to all who took part in the organisation of the event, a lot of care and time had obviously gne into it - and a what a great feeling forming unofficial Minor convoys as you get close to the venue :)

Next stop Herts Branch Rally!

First one I've missed.... Maybe next year, if things take a turn for the better I'll have another Minor.

Time for some criticism.
There should have been an MMOC HQ tent where the common membership could have found the illustrious leaders of this fine car club. No club supporting acts such as Technical Tips, apart from club spares and regalia who kindly sold me a coffee mug out of hours as I had forgotten mine.
And no toilet/shower caravan in the campsite like last year.
I bet if I wrote this for Minor Matters it would not get published! :(

There should have been an MMOC HQ tent where the common membership could have found the illustrious leaders of this fine car club.
Who do you mean by 'illustrious leaders'? Club secretary Ray Newell was at the club spares tent for most of the weekend. Assistant secretary Christine Haigh was busy checking everyone in to the camp site. Rosie Hamilton was visible throughout the weekend chatting to members, dealing with a camera crew and arranging the interbranch challenge. Rally organiser Andrew Stone was busy dealing with various problems as they arose, both on the campsite and the rally field. I don't think we should expect them to spend the weekend in a tent.
No club supporting acts such as Technical Tips, apart from club spares and regalia
What 'supporting acts' did you want? Membership secretary Liz Saxon was also there. Not sure why there was no Technical Tips presence but there hasn't been at the last few rallies. You could however get all the technical advice you needed by just speaking to the other members of the website who were there, or the various traders.
And no toilet/shower caravan in the campsite like last year
The lack of showers was disappointing but has been raised with Andrew Stone so the comments will hopefully be taken on board for next year. An added problem was that Haynes offered the site to the club for the weekend that happened to clash with the Glastonbury Festival so all portable toilets/showers for miles around had already been booked well in advance.

At the end of the day, you are never going to please everyone but I find that you get out what you put in. Personally, I feel that the National is as much about meeting and socialising with like minded people as it is about looking at rows of Minors. All those I spoke to during the weekend had enjoyed themselves. Yes, there were a few moans but that's human nature - overall though most people seemed happy :D

Had a great time....only thing i'd have to ask about or question was the site layout on the Sunday!

Why on earth the huge segragation in the field, seemed mad, one block of cars on one side, huge gap in the middle and the other block miles away!

Would love to know what the plan was!

Roll on nexy year, well done to all who organised.

Louise, please do not misunderstand, but as I did not go to the National this year, and in view of your 2007 posting below, what in your view made this rally better than last years?

I know what I don't want at the National next year - Clowns

I've got to agree dropping gallons of water on to the camp site would have been very entertaining and refreshing at the same time.:D:lol::D
