Moggies in the Movies...

Post by bloodyank »

Just saw "An Education", a film set in '60's London. Tons of street scenes showing period cars including many MM's both Saloons and Travellers. Many other marques, MG's and the like as well.
The main character drives a beautiful Bristol 405, a car I had never seen. Rare as hen's teeth I understand.
If any of you have seen it, can you ID some of the other marques seen on the street there?
Good movie, just out on DVD over here.

"Meet The Feebles", a very early work by Peter Jackson features heaps of moggies, including a black stretch Limo version.

If memory serves me correctly in An Education there is a scene that occurs two or three times of the street where the flat (apartment) is. Across the road is a saloon which is either an Austin Cambridge or a Morris Oxford. It could also be a Wolseley 16/60, the differences between the three models are barely noticeable at first glance. Incidentally, Kelly is also a US citizen, from Golden, Colorado. I don't think I'd get away with calling her a Bloody Yank though ! "Former Colonial "seems to be the limit.... :D

Not a movie, I grant, but I was really surprised to see a Morris Minor in the 7th episode of Caprica. It's only in the background for a second as a character runs past.

I'd guess that Minors are sufficiently rare in the States and Canada that it fits the requirement for a not easily recognisable car and thus could be developed by a different civilisation...

There's one at a traffic light in 'American Graffiti' and there's loads in the 'Lemon Popsicle' series of films.

also there is a bright orange cheesegrater (if i remember correctly) in a couple of early american scenes in "the worlds fastest indian"

both films are excellent, much better than the usual rubbish you get nowadays

Saw one the other night in the BBC four film about John Lennon, starring Christopher Eccleston, "Lennon Naked".

As a signed-up saddo, I can tell you that it was a Clarendon Grey Morris 1000 (not sure if 2 or 4 door), and its index number was GHK 328B.

Plus the White 1000 in Pricill queen of the desert.

There is of course the inevitable web-site where you can look up all movies containing Morris's. Some people just want to spoil memories with facts, don't they?

Though it certainly isn't a film. Dot Branning has a Traveller in Eastenders. It looks in very good knick too!
