the mog in popular culture

Post by markthe45king »

ok - so we have the traveller in eastenders, lovejoy's convertible, the antiques roadshow, the "it says morris on the door" van in madness's "driving in my car", and the fact they were cruelly usurped by minis for the original italian job but any other "cultural" spots?

My favourite obscurity is the brief shot in the smiths " the Queen is Dead" video.

not that I'd want to watch it, but apparently Roy and Hayley (Corronation St) had a Minor.

There was a pink saloon on Teachers. It sold on ebay later so it may still exist.

Lovejoy used a few different Minors as they wrecked the first one etc...

you see one in the opening title of an Austin Powers (Austin of all names...) movie, can't remember which one tho... could be 'The Spy Who.... ahem... Me'. There is also one in the video for a fairly recent Oasis song 'The Importance of Being Idle'.

Cultural enough for you? :D

There was a white convertible used recently in a Muller ad for Muller Light - does this count as "Culture"?

What about Nurse Gladys Emmanuel's saloon (Open All Hours). It used to belong to an MMOC member (Roy Braime?). Also, Dot Cotton was learning to drive on a Traveller in Eastenders.

Apparently Casualty has featured (probably the same) green traveller as used in the soap operas mentioned above.

I don't watch these programs myself.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Not so sure it can be classed as today's popular culture but I'm sure it was popular at some point

Watched a few episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus recently and was pleased to see some Minors in Terry Gilliam's animation sequences. Don't remember any real Minors in the series, though.
