Post by stevensani »

Hi
Does anyone know whether anyone produces a make beleive/imitation split screen centre. This is for cosmetic purposes only.
Thanks Steve

A friend of mine (who doesn't post on here) did that to his early 1000 Traveller. I did a double-take when I noticed it! I think he put some kind of self-adhesive chromed plastic strip on both sides of the glass. An external bead will probably interfere with your wipers unless it's early enough that it has the clap-hands style (up to about 1963 IIRC).

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

OK maybe I'm not the only one, but I thought it sounded pretty awful.

BUT, actually the result is not bad at all. I wondered what the point would be, but I have to say, seeing the picture, I totally get it!

i dont need the fake centre. at brooklands, one of the marshalls asked if it still had the sidevalve engine. i told him that only the early ones had sidevalves. he said 'well it is an early one isnt it?' i told him that it's not. he said 'but it's a split screen!' i pointed to my windscreen and said 'no it's not!' he blushed and ran off!

20 minutes in the local scrap yard should do the trick - the original splitscreen has a larger rubber section with the chrome on top and a screwed plate on the inside. You don't need to go to those lengths for a fake one as minor-nerds wouldn't be fooled and the uneducated wouldn't know the difference.

If you don't have "clap hands" wipers, all bets are off!
