car insurance
Hi can anyone tell me if footman and james still do classic car insuarance for young drivers as i have herd they stopped doing it
thanks
thanks
Re: car insurance
The MMOC has a special young drivers scheme with FJ so insurance is definitely available for club members aged from 17 years upwards. You won’t be able to get an on-line quote though, you'll need to call them on the dedicated club phone number: 0844 8750596.

Re: car insurance
I have been with FJ since 2007 aged 18,on minors and other classics, rang up today to check my renewal price in Jan having heard similar stories,to be told that they are NOT ABLE TO INSURE UNDER 25 year olds on classic policys from the start of the year, and after 5 years, would not be able to insure me next year.i would advise the club check for certain because it certainly doesnt look good for yound drivers.

Re: car insurance
FJ, like a lot of other 'Specialists' AKA Flux, C Knott, etc. etc. are, as far as I am aware, simply brokers who have some underwriting capability.
If there insurance 'book' with a particular company gets to many young drivers and becomes to 'risky' in the eyes of the actual insurance co, then restrictions can be applied to get it back in balance.
It happens all the time I'm afraid.
There has been a lot of press advice for young drivers to buy a classic car as a way to beat the 'high' premiums they normally find themselves paying. That has to have some consequences on specialist schemes at some point I'm afraid.
Whoever is the Clubs main contact needs to ask some searching questions of FJ in regard to the cases pointed out and the scheme in general.

Our other car is a 2009 Citroen C6 3.0 HDi a 'future classic' and far rarer than a Morris Minor!!
The 'moggie' has been replaced with another 'classic' a 1953 Citroen Traction Avant 11BL

Re: car insurance
To be honest the discounted insurance for young drivers is the main reason we joined the club.
If we lost that benefit then I'm afraid it's bye-bye Moggie and membership, because I can't justify thousands of pounds premium
My daughter's renewal is due in March - I hope the Club can issue a statement to reassure us.

Re: car insurance
mine was due in Jan and they couldnt insure me after 5 years loyal service,im now with lancaster, who not only do it fully comp but are £300 cheaper than FJ too.
Re: car insurance
I've passed this on to the office, who will contact FJ as soon as possible for further information.

Re: car insurance
Hi everyone just to let you know my son pasted his test on 15th and we managed to insure him with Footman and James. They never said anything about not insuring next year. Thanks for all the replies. Just need the snow to go so he can then start to drive it. Darren

Re: car insurance
I've just spoken to Footman James and asked them to clarify the situation.
Basically, it's only under club schemes, like our MMOC, where they will quote new policies or renew existing ones for under 25 year olds.
They assured me that my 18 year old daughter would be offered a renewal in March!

Re: car insurance
Glad to hear he passed. There has been discussion on the ym fb page about this also. Seems you just occasionally get someone useless or lazy on the other end of the phone... Dont give up, even when it comes to getting a quote, speaking to someone different, or quoting prices other young members are getting can be useful. Although Mr coles has already used the "Ahem, I run the young members register" card :p

Re: car insurance
Despite being currently insured for my moggie along with wife and 19 year old daughter with Footman James I have just been refused to allow my 17 year old son to be added to the the policy (all MMOC members). I think MMOC should review their association with this company especially if they wish to encourage younger members and continue to thrive.
Apparently they have reviewed this in past 30 days.

Re: car insurance
Contact the MMOC Derby office and I'm sure Liz Saxon will be able to help 01332 291675.

Footman James do still offer insurance for young drivers under the MMOC scheme. If you have problems, contact david.youngs@footmanjames.co.uk by e-mail, or contact Liz Saxon at the club office.

Re: car insurance
All,
The office has been in contact with Footman James today, and they have asked each department heads to re brief all customer facing staff and remind them of the details of the MMOC scheme, in particularly that FJ does cover drivers down to 17 years of age on the MMOC scheme.
As Jon says any problems let the office know.

Re: car insurance
Anyone had figures for Renewals yet this year on the young drivers scheme?
I paid £630 last year for Third Party for my 17 year old daughter.
I'm holding my breath for renewal next month
