Value of doors???

Post by Pilkie »

Hi all.

As I am looking for a good pair of 2 door/Traveller doors for my current project,it occured to me that I really have no idea of what sort of price would be good or bad for them??? :-? :-?
So in your expert opinions,if I found a very good rust and damage free,or very nearly, set of doors, chrome trim,1/4 light, and main glass, locks etc all working, what sort of price should I expect to pay for them??
£30 the pair,£50 the pair,£100 the pair?? :-? £100 each?? :o
EDIT!
ps,I will be at the national so hope I can find a bargain pair!

Cheers Dave

A while back, although I think still available, the club spares wanted over £300 for a door, although new old stock, still outrageous! A really decent used one may fetch 80 or so. The bottoms are usually the weak spot along with the front vertical. Good luck. If you're at the National you may get lucky. :D ,

There is usually a good selection at the national, but if they are any good or not or they are a good price  is a different matter!!

I would expect to pay at least £100/150 for a really good door that needed no welding, but would need to be stripped down and re sprayed. Most of the doors on offer will require the bottom being repaired.

I picked up a pair of van doors at the BMC Rally from an autojumbler.

New old stock items, absolutely no rust, perfect shiny metal once the primer was removed, never been fitted.

Some tight fisted Morris Minor enthusiasts debated over them all day long, going over and picking them up ,showing them into the sun for any dents, asking me if they were a good buy or not, shall we shan`t we buy them....at the end of the show when the chap was loading them into his van,I drove buy on the way out and I picked them up for £120.00 the pair

He who dithers. :D :D

MMM!
Maybe I ought to make a phone call, jump in the car and go get the pair of rust free, dent free, all complete,2 door/traveller doors for £30! :)
As long as they are as described then that would seem a bargain! :)

£30 is a steal. I'd expect to pay £100+ for a single good door.

Well I gave him a ring and went to see the doors!
:D
Rust and dent free, door bottom rubber trim channels perfect, all chrome good, locks and windows work, even the trim panel wasnt bad with a clean!!
Also got a V good front wing, nice speedo, both glovebox doors,2 headlights and good bowls all in for £40! :D :D

PS!
After reading some of your posts, it would seem I made the right choice not to go to the meet on the saturday in favour of getting the doors!
I can pop over to a local supplier I know and get what I need.

I find it strange that no-one has set up to rejuvenate Minor doors. There must be a market - surely?

Well there is and people do, but not too many takers at £150 or so each (Which is what is does cost with a realistic labour rate) when good s/h are still about for less. the time will come when rebuilt doors are the only available option but as we've seen here bargains are still to be found...
cheers
