Anyone Dundee area?
Can I be cheeky and ask if there is anyone that lives there if they would mind having a quick glance at a car (Moggy) up there for me.(dealership)
Hell of a long way to just go and view from here.
Not wanting or expecting a full 24 page report, just a quick once over to confirm it's seemingly as described, and not hanging with a multitude of patches and filler underneath and loud knocking noises on start up.
I'll gladly pay for any expenses if I decide to purchase, or send a c/q regardless.

I will ask a friend who lives in Broughty Ferry to have a look if it is this one.

I've become so hooked and happy driving Miss C.J's, I'm now considering this instead of my estate car for work.

Is that close to Dundee then?
300+ miles from here.
France is closer, and that includes the ferry crossing!!!
Why are the possible tasty ones always gazillions of miles away?
All this got me thinking, thanks to our fellow members in here with the stunning red van...and the green one too, both of which I was drooling over at Capesthorne Hall, and then Cholmondley Castle a couple of weeks ago.
I assume similar things have to be checked out on the vans as in/on the cars?

Hi,
I stay 1 mile from autoecosse, so I'll have a look today. They get quite a good reputation - not the usual trash. I've not looked at the ad yet, but I'll guess it won't be cheap. I'll report back today.
Pete

Re: Anyone Dundee area?
Looks not too bad - they had a white saloon for sale a while back. I'll drop down for an inspection this morning. Is it a cash sale as I'd haggle a bit on price?
pm me your phone number.

Wow!
Cheers for that P.O.
Always haggle on price regardless. Asking price is ALWAYS a starting price that inevitably has to move in a southerly direction.
I'd initially ask them 'how much for mine in p/x (would have to be back trading as mine's worth 10-11k probably) and then ask how much for cash and NO p/x ,and work the difference out as to which would be the best deal.
Could sell my car on an S.O.R. basis down here then.
I'll pm you as requested.
Do you live close by to the dealer, as I don't want you travelling many miles for me.

Re: Anyone Dundee area?
Pete IS a star btw!
Been to see it for me and reported back.
Well beyond the call of duty he went to, as it wasn't at the dealers, but 18 miles away.
Don't think I'll be pursuing this particular one now, thanks to his advice.
I'd have been well hacked off going all that way to be disappointed.
Not a minger by all accounts, but not quite as nice as the description and piccies show it to be.

Re: Anyone Dundee area?
The dealer is part of the Richard Lawson group of companies - you may remember they used to run a huge fleet of car transporters from their base in Kirriemuir.
They sold this on a while back, and sold a lot of land for housing, but they still retain a huge site. The owner is really into classic cars and they restore some themselves.
The van in my opinion wasn't worth the money asked as it had a fibreglass rear cab roof, poorly repaired sill sections, the respray didn't extend to the back cab interior or under the bonnet. It was sprayed in 2K paint which was on a bit thick, so it looked plasticky. Also, windows etc were just masked, so there was overspray where it shouldn't be. All the detail stuff - grommets, door window seals etc really need replacing, plus chrome work was just ok. The rear wheel tubs were dented and the rear valance needed replaced, and the underneath really needed a good rub down and paint. 1 front wing was glass, and the other was a horrible new steel replacement.
On the good side, the chassis seemed in good order, tyres were fine, and there was a firm brake pedal. The engine started first time and ran fine, but then they all do . Underbonnet scene was pretty good with inner wings in good order, door gaps were all good and the rear doors operated correctly.
I'm not sure what I'd value it at, but vans aren't exactly bargain basement these days. I felt I couldn't recommend it to Colin unless he could get a big chunk off the price, but I'm sure there are better out there.
They also had a dove grey saloon for sale (no price) and this on first glance looked a lot better - nice paint job and loads of new chrome. Unfortunately, the detail stuff let it down again - oversprayed grommets etc, plus I found a hole in the floor - not big, but it was there. It had been extensively welded in the past, but welds weren't ground back or seam sealed - underneath was generally needing work to tidy up. It did have really nice rear inner wings though and a nice interior. It must have had a fair bit of cash spent on it, but not finished as it should have been. A little more effort and it could have been nice.
Glad to assist with viewings.

Re: Anyone Dundee area?
Now that is a comprehensive report Pete, and I thank you most sincerely again.
You thought about doing it as a career?
