Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
Well, in the case of,
etching windows,
steering wheel lock, disklok,
whether the potential tea leaf sees said on the website or not doesnt really matter.
Secret switches can go anywhere, yer average tea leaf hasnt the time to search around, as long as the owner is informed of the umpteen places they can go, again it doesnt matter.
I suppose my raison detre here is people are buying Minors, putting them on the road and getting them nicked, only then do they consider anti theft devices.
Really the process of course should be the other way round.
So.......if we had a section called "before you buy your minor"
Prevention is better than cure.
Ask anyone who may have had their pride and joy nicked if they wish they had fitted a disklok and I think the reply would be obvious.
Secret switches of course are not discovered by the perpetrator until he has broken the door lock.
My choice would always be the visible, etching £25.00 disklok £100.00
peace of mind £priceless.

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
2 more lovely minors have been nicked in the past 2 weeks.
So when will we have a "before you buy your minor" column highlighting diskloks etc?
People are only taking notice of proper security when they get nicked.
So how about it?

I think its a great idea, and a section of the website already covers it. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?page=329moggiethouable wrote:2 more lovely minors have been nicked in the past 2 weeks.

I have added an announcement to the cars for sale and the wanted sections as the "Stop Thief!" page linked above isn't the easiest thing to find

What I need here is a 'like' button for Matt's post, but we don't have one. Hmmm, that'll be another addition to the list then!Matt wrote:I think its a great idea, and a section of the website already covers it. http://www.mmoc.org.uk/index.php?page=329moggiethouable wrote:2 more lovely minors have been nicked in the past 2 weeks.

Kidding aside, I'm going to get in touch with Those Who Must Be Obeyed and see if we can finally get started on this soon - bit embarrassed having started this thread off and not a lot happened since

Less onerous T&Cs or lighter touch moderation.
This is the internet, if you put something on it you must be prepared to be upset by the responses you get.
This "say no evil" attitude to vendors removes one of the best elements of the internet, the ability for ordinary people to share information.

you can't really have one or the other?? TBH I think we let quite a lot go at the moment, only doing something when there is a complaint or it gets a bit silly!MarkyB wrote:Less onerous T&Cs or lighter touch moderation
I'm sure there are many many more threads we could delete/modify under the T&Cs

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
With a quarter of a million pound turn over it is time the MMOC has a paid webmaster who will be to maintain the website which is a vital marketing tool not only to attract young people but there are many, many silver surfers which need to be kept interested in the MMOC by using the website and not necessarily messageboard.

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
Because theres no point having rules if they are ignoredMarkyB wrote:Why not?you can't really have one or the other??
And thats my point! We could moderate an awful lot more of the posts that are on the forum for being in breach of the T&Cs - but as you said that would/could be counterproductive and kill the site. Its a balancing act between enforcing the rules and keeping the peace! Personally I think the moderation is actually pretty light, looking at the logs for the last fortnight or so the majority of "mods" have been moving mis-placed topics, deleting duplicates and mods/admin placing posts and immediately stickying/locking them (like I have done giving the security message in the wanted and cars for sale section).MarkyB wrote:I'm sure there are too, it doesn't make it a good idea though.I'm sure there are many many more threads we could delete/modify under the T&Cs

Now, if you feel different about it thats up to you. Without completely ignoring the T&Cs or a massive re-write of them I don't think the moderation can get more relaxed...
As always, if anyone is anyhappy with moderation that has happened - feel free to PM me and I will TRY to find out what has happened and why.

Another Morris Minor nicked, and still no column prominent on security.

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
This is an open site for all to view - members, prospective members, and those who wish to "acquire" a minor without paying for it. If security aids are posted we will have no hope of keeping our cars safe. If anyone needs to know all they have to do is ask and they are usually answered via PM's which are secure from prying eyes!

I will stick my neck out by saying, a Minor with a Disklok fitted will only be nicked by towing.
A small, if any, number of Minors have been nicked by towing, because yer average tea leaf is a chancer, not a planner.
Owners are not getting the message regarding security.
I believe doing nothing is not an option.
We need a security column, on the home page.

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
Yes it is covered there. But they are stating that it should be placed in a more prominent place such as the homepage (where more people will see it) and I do think myself it would be better on the home page and hidden in a place that people may only visit if they are looking for a car and so it is of no use to people who have owned their cars for x amount of years with no anti-theft devices or deterents fitted.moggiethouable wrote:We need a security column, on the home page.

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
Yep and as it goes its okay.
Steering locks need to be prominently displayed, as does etching of glass which is a breakers deterrent, also it needs to be prominent on the home page with its own bold header, not hidden as it is now.
It is the most crucial piece of information a prospective buyer needs, its not reaching people in its current format, proof positive is the number of Minors still being stolen.
Anyone with a nicked Minor is too upset and lets face it, embarassed to say "actually I didnt fit anything to prevent the theft"
I stand by my conviction, steering locks, etching, secret switches, prevent theft and this site is not doing enough to get the membership fitting anti-theft devices.
If we are not part of the cure, we are complicit in the disease.

Re: So what do YOU want from the MMOC website?
It has probably already been mentioned, and I don't know if it is feasible anyway, but with almost 10 thousand posts on the Technical bit already, would an INDEX be possible? I feel a bit of a fraud asking about things that I am sure must already have been covered, but it would take me the rest of my life to read through that number of pages! And that is if I had started twenty years ago....
