Chasing Classic Cars,Fast and Load,Counting Cars,Overhaulin

Post by Morris Mike »

Is anyone here a fan of these programmes.?
Overhaulin.
--------------
It would be nice to have Chip Foose of Overhaulin steal one of my Travellers or Vans and give it the "Foose " treatment.
I wonder what powertrain they would fit.?

Chasing Classic Cars
--------------------------

Wayne Cerrini is a true classic car guy, and has attention to detail in his work.
No dramatic scenes in his programme`s, just fantastic barn finds, restorations and auction tension.
I like how he helps families get the right deal for their cars after the collector of the cars has passed away.
He is well known in the states by some friends of ours and well respected.

I like how he goes car hunting in his friends aircraft who pilots the plane . Just an ordinary guy who may spend $1,000,000 in a day on cars.
Certainly no hHoo Ray Hennry`s like you get at Bonhams auction over here in the UK.

Fast and Loud.
-------------------
Richard and Arron get hold of some really interesting cars.
The prices amaze me what they buy or sell them for, such good bargains some of those 1950`s/1960`s cars.
All of the characters in the programme grow on you after watching a few episodes.
My wife started to enjoy watching the programme with interest which surprised me until she commented how she liked Richard Rawlings...right we are not watching that again I said. :D :D

Counting Cars.
------------------
This programme is more about the people who buy the cars or have work carried out by the team rather than boring the pants off you telling every detail of how the car was restored.
Horny Mike is such a talented paint man .
The owner of the business Danny AKA the Count is a really nice guy who enjoy`s his passion of old cars with gusto, and although a well healed business man would be good fun to hang around with.
Sometimes the cars are that fantastic when finished it makes it really difficult for him to part with some of his vehicles

What I like about the Americans is even when spending $80,000 on a vehicle there is no snobbish behaviour from them, they just come over as ordinary guy`s.
Not like over here in the UK where we have the "You are what you drive brigade" at classic car shows.

I will sit down later tonight after working in the workshop and have a couple of beers watching Fast and Loud.

Thanks Mike for the brief description of the programmes. I have seen a few of these advertised but not watched them - but now you have explained some of the details I might just have to have a peek!

If you are the type of person who likes standard looking classic cars, barn finds, concourse shows and top quality restorations then Chasing Classic Cars is the programme for you.

Wayne is the older guy who has been in this game for 40 years.

No melodramatics and no faking. It shows how people get really attached to old cars and how they keep memories from the past alive.

Sometimes Wayne has to walk away from a car if the owners are not ready to sell their family history.

He does unearth some unusual finds.
As he say`s " Its all in the chase".

I know exactly what he means. there is nothing better than driving out somewhere to view a car you know little about, finding a gem and the next evening have it sitting in your garage.

Everything from a $16,000 Jaguar S Type to a $4,000,000 Ferrari.
They are all on the show.

Fast and Loud.
Counting Cars.
Overhaulin.
Phantom Works.

Are for the modified enthusiast. Great cars though.

I like all types.

We have never had a proper Classic Car programme made in the UK.
Why can we not have a UK version of Chasing Classic Cars.?

Overhauling is one of the few that I can bear to watch out in an otherwise very bad bunch.

The best classic car programs were the " crisis" series, kit car, camper and Beetle.
They should have done a Minor crisis or mini crisis series as well.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

I suppose our nearest equivalent is Wheeler Dealers, who have done up quite an assortment of classics, including a Morris Traveller.

I find chasing classic cars a bit old too quickly.
I like the others you list, a lot as well as Wheeler Dealers.
Didn't like Fantom Works so much.

Fast and Loud is my favorite, though.

We have never had a proper Classic Car programme made in the UK.
Why can we not have a UK version of Chasing Classic Cars.?
Partly because there are states where they don't use salt on the roads.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_Belt

Also the subject doesn't lend itself to the kind of artificial drama that our program makers seem to love.
Maybe if the cars had to be ready to use as wedding cars it would be exciting enough?

Not sure what you mean about your comment about salt.?

Just because our cars do not survive as well as some cars in the USA, does not mean we cannot make a proper classic car programme, without trantrums, shouting or drama scenes.

They certainly do not happen in my workshop. I think if they did nobody would want to come round to see or assist me.

What we need is a charismatic vintage and classic car dealer and restorer who has been on the scene for a very long time to front a programme about how he finds interesting cars, the work that goes into restoring or improving them and the way they are sold at auction or to private collectors.

A few people spring to mind John Brown. He has been on the scene many years. Has always had some really interesting stock of vehicles.
Would purchase a vehicle because he liked it not always for a quick buck.

Some of the old vintage car dealers like Martin Elder.

We do not need a blow by blow account of how every nut and bolt is fitted to a car.
As someone who has been restoring cars for at least 30 years I find this tedious.

Wheeler Dealers is getting a bit boring now, it is on the TV all the time. Repeats after repeats.
And it is not really about classic cars. A lot of the stuff they work on you can see in the supermarket car park any day of the week. Too modern.

Some of the programmes show Ed China at least ten years younger.!!!

A Car Is Born must be at least 15 years old.

There was also Classic Car Rescue on Channel 5:

This was quite entertaining, if a touch far-fetched at times!

Not Classic Car Rescue :( :( .

This Programme was so awfull and faked.

I have read lots of bad press about this programme on other classic car forums and even Classic Car Weekly brought up issues about how they actually used two different MGB`s in one of the restoration slots, making out it was the same car.
That load mouth presenter used to be in another car programme about a garage in Spain ripping off the Brits who live down in the south of the country.
Too much shouting, trantrums and spanner throwing.

Classic car rescue had 2 presenters(both loudmouths I agree). The only one I recall in Spain was "The Garage" and the owner of that was a Scot?

Indeed, he was called Jock Campbell, and was a silmilar 'old school' mechanic type, very much in the vein of Bernie from Chop Shop/Classic Car Rescue.

Seen a few of these lately due to having been off work and able to browse day time telly.... Came accross I think it was called 'Classic Car Club' on Quest. UK based, rather like old Top Gear or Fifth Gear but solely about Classics. Quite good from the episodes I saw. Even had Tony Mason as one of the presenters.

Chasing classic cars is good, sensible, interesting and watchable. UK version, why not? Maybe it would work...
American Chopper, Hot rod etc: too much shouting, false deadlines and drama and not enough about the vehicles.
cheers
Iain

I agree, I thought this programme was the best of the lot. Fuzz Townsend is particularly good, and is a real classic car enthusiast
