Lancaster Insurance
Hi all,
Lancaster Insurance are telling me that I can't upgrade the mechanicals on my Minor. Looking at previous threads, members don't seem to have had problems like this with Lancaster in the past - this is for standard Minor 1000 running gear into a Series 2.
Thanks
Bernard

Re: Lancaster Insurance
Try another insurance
mine used to be above
its now RH
From 144 this year to 60 quid by doing so
I got the quotes from them both to prove it
its up to the drivers choice of insurance firms
but my wallet made it for me

Re: Lancaster Insurance
I used to have a modified minor insured with Lancaster - so they do (used to) do it. I *think* the underwriter was equity red star?
They are (AFAIK) a broker, so maybe you are currently insured by an underwriter that does not insure modified cars? Maybe it wouldn't be a problem if you were to "cancel" the current policy and re-insure with the mods?

Re: Lancaster Insurance
Definitely RH are the best value at the moment.
No issues with a 1275/5 speed Minor there, or even my Corvette!

Re: Lancaster Insurance
Lancaster are saying that it's the underwriter, Chaucer, who will not accept such changes on the policy.
The only positive spin I can put on it is I've got 11 months to buy all the bits I want, then shop around again.

Re: Lancaster Insurance
I've been 'plugging' RH for more years than I can remember....always served me v well. But I do know many Mini lads use Lancaster - and seem to have no great problem with engine modifications. Is your age perhaps the problem?
Re: Lancaster Insurance
Lancaster does seem to have become more cautious in the couple of years that I've been with them, when I came to insure my second Minor, Ursula, with them last August there were some additional restrictions which seemed odd given that her agreed value was lower than that of Dodo's. I've got a renewal coming up soon too...

I'll certainly approach RH when the policy's up for renewal...looking through everyone's posts, Lancaster don't seem to come out very well. I don't suppose I should moan too much at the price I got for the insurance on the un-modded car though, £65 for the year, 3000 miles, SDP only, no claims not used.

Re: Lancaster Insurance
Well I chased up my renewal today for Dodo and it's more than doubled since last year! Seems that the recent spate of thefts in London (I count 5 since Oct) http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=3 has really pushed up premiums
Re: Lancaster Insurance
We've moved to a new postcode area that has "Refer" in all of the web insurance postcode checkers. Our daily driver, a custard-yellow Fiat 500, has to make way for the Minor in the garage. This will explain the low quote on the Minor, but I was pleasantly surprised that, even sat on the drive, the Fiat's renewal was only £155. The classics are the only easy targets for thieves today.
