Insurance via a non-specialist (Admiral)

Post by MrDodo »

As my current classic specialist insurance renewal quotation has jumped up by almost £200 I've been shopping around for a new provider. I've found that a general insurer - in this case Admiral - I prepared to give me a good price. The policy will have an agreed valuation, and if I need to make a claim it would only be declared a write off if the cost of repair exceed the agreed valuation. The proposal has been checked by the underwriters and everything seems to be in order.

Is there anything else that I should be aware of before signing on the dotted line? Does anyone else insure their Minor with a generalist car insurer?

Did you try RH Insurance? Can't understand why your Classic Insurance is so expensive?? I bet Admiral don't include Roadside and Recovery....but I guess you can buy that quite cheaply - just check they cover Classics before handing over money!

Yes, I did try RH (and many others) - won't insure vehicles that aren't garaged overnight (in the Great Metropolis). Dodo doesn't have that luxury (but is fitted with Thatcham rated devices and visible deterrents). I suspect it's due to the seemingly increasing number of thefts - I saw someone's Sunbeam Alpine went missing today from East London.

The motto is always shop around.

YES RH are good value for me in Margate, with classics parked on the drive but not necessarily for central London.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO
