Re: Old gasket?
It's a universal thermostat housing gasket. The idea is that you place the stat cover over it so that the holes line up and then trim off the bits that aren't needed. Not much easier than making a gasket from scratch really.
Re: Old gasket?
But it is the correct material - and thickness - and shape - and the holes are all kiss-cut. So with 3 snips of the scissors - job done ! An excellent idea of the time - to provide a fits all gasket... Points off for folks who used it without bothering to snip off the edges they didn't need...... and yes - I have seen that done....

Where have you ben hiding? It is a standard gasket.dalebrignall wrote:never seen that before
It does not fit the Series MM which has only two oddly spaced bolt holes so I persuaded Gaskets for Classics to make proper thermostat gaskets for the Series MM and to include them in the head gasket set

Re: Old gasket?
Always keep a selection of gasket material to hand so that you can make your own if required
Even the centre out of that UNIPART gasket can be utilised for something else.

Makes the heater valve to head joint
Re: Old gasket?
Exactly - I had been thinking they could have pre-cut that into the centre! But what a shame that all these manufacturers couldn't have standardised on something as simple as a thermostat mounting....
