Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead
After some looking about i found this link that tells me about the numbers on my bulkhead
http://www.morris-minor.co.uk/p70.htm
for some reason on my 1958 traveller i have a earlier looking square chassis plate with the later details from the rounded later plate giving less information,
but on the righthand side of the bulkhead there is this tag
is that on other cars and does it mean anything, rob

Re: Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead
Silly me i am googling POMMreg as i thought it was a website..
this is the vin/chassis plate i have, from what i worked out it should be rounded as the square ones contain more coded letters,
and i have covered the lat 3 numbers as i was unsure what people could do with the chassis number ..
but thanks i will pm POMMreg about the body number.rob

Re: Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead

The 'Car No.' should be typed into the bulkhead below the plate. Any sign of it? Obviously should be the same number as the plate........

Re: Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead
It'll be stamped in just below the chassis plate, near to where the bonnet pull rod comes through. Might not be too visible depending how much paint got sprayed on in that area and it tends to have the wiring loom obscuring it slightly.
Your chassis plate looks fine - original and undisturbed with the right screws and patination. Repro plates have certain (deliberate?) differences so you can tell and this looks original. Right prefix for a Series 3 traveller: M for Morris, A for A series engine, W for traveller (Wood?) and series 3 for a 948cc Minor 1000 that followed the Series 2 production. Nowt to worry about as far as I can see

Re: Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead
That's it - typed in using 'types' ! (cf 'typewriter' which has 'types' on the end of arms activated by the keys....)
Re: Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead
How do you get a Morris Minor into a typewriter to stamp the number on the bulkhead?Sorry but its really bugging me.

Re: Chassis numbers and numbers on the bulkhead
The bulkhead would probably have been stamped before it was welded in..
