De-value
My Dad has a 1956 split screen Morris Minor that has been in the family for 35 years. It is in beautiful condition and has an original Cornish plate. If we take the plate off it, will it de-value the car as we want to sell it?
Re: De-value
Your average classic car buyer may not be able to tell the difference, however, the people who are in the market for early cars like your Series 2 will probably be more interested and focused on originality and authenticity.
Certainly an original registration does have some value, especially if the car has the physically original plates whose style and age gives more authenticity.
I personally would never transfer a plate. It's part of the cars individual history, story and identity! It also makes it harder and more frustrating for possible future owners to trace its history.

I TOTALLY agree, well done OHP for answering so eloquently!!OHP 900 wrote:Your average classic car buyer may not be able to tell the difference, however, the people who are in the market for early cars like your Series 2 will probably be more interested and focused on originality and authenticity.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: De-value
To answer the OPs question I don't think removing the plate will affect the price you get for the car.If you've made up your mind to sell and its original plate has a value to you whether its financial or sentimental just do it.

Re: De-value
Just be aware that quotes given for registration number values are often over inflated so you might find it is not worth as much as you think when you try to sell it.

Re: De-value
Old plates are VERY over inflated in value....don't be sucked in. Unless the letters and figures spell out a good name eg (ROY 666 ??) it will not sell all that well. Keep it on the car - or perhaps - transfer it to your 'modern' car as a memory of what you had. The transfer age related plate on the Minor will certainly reduce it's value for a specialist buyer.
Re: De-value
The reason they want to remove it may be nothing to do with money.
