Thanks for that. I have followed that link and bought the Humbrol paint. Thanks for tip regarding the varnishing too.Mr Spigot wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 4:03 pm
I did actually buy the Revell version and tried it first, but it was an opaque pinky red and I soon wiped it off. The Humbrol had been sitting in my garage for a while and luckily I found it after trying the Revell one. A quick look online shows a few stockists still have some so might be worth hunting around - try https://rcmodelstore.co.uk/humbrol-enam ... 33510.html…
You will need a fine brush and keep applying the varnish until it comes up almost level with the surface of the 'M'.
Plain or coloured bonnet handle?

Re: Plain or coloured bonnet handle?
Well, the humbrol paint from the RC model store never arrived and they’ve ignored numerous emails asking where it is. I can’t find the paint in stock anywhere else.
So…I’ve ordered Jeep deep cherry red touch up paint with some humbrol satin clear varnish. I have an old spare bonnet handle I can test it on to see how it looks first.
I shall report back with the results.

Re: Plain or coloured bonnet handle?
This is my bonnet handle after one coat of Chevrolet (Jeep) blaze red crystal paint. I’m very happy with the colour. The colour wasn’t the one I ordered but I’m actually very happy with the mix up!
I will do another thin coat on top of this one, followed by two coats of humbrol satin enamel varnish. Will post finished results once complete.
Incidentally, does anyone know size size of nut is supposed to affix it to the bonnet? I need to get on my hands and knees and search my garage floor in the hope of finding it.

Thanks Keith. The finished result is below. Art was my worst subject at school by a country mile, so I’m pleased with how it turned out!

Re: Plain or coloured bonnet handle?
Thanks. Yes, haha! For anyone reading this in future, just in case they need the nut size.
Original bonnet handles = 2ba
Reproduction handles = M5
