1950 Lowlite, 2 door sedan

Post by tonton533 »

Hi Everyone.
I am in Australia and am new to this.
I have just purchased a 1950 lowlite, side valve and wish to complete work on it to authentic.

Could I have a simple answer to following:
1- What colour is the cheese grater grill. Chrome surround and ?????
2- The correct hubcaps for a 1950 2 door. Do they have the M inscribed, are they chrome and 8,1/2"

Any recommendations on books to look for would be helpful to.
Thanks in advance
Tony

Hi,
The hub caps for you minor is 8.1/2 " .
plain ones look better unless you want an "M" on it.
Below Links for your reference. similarly there are couple of other suppliers.

The book Original Morris Minor by Ray Newell is the best source for information on what your car might have looked like new. It's pricy but is filled with very good pictures and very detailed information. It's available through the club or in Amazon.

I'd also recommend the Haynes Manual; it's more geared towards the 1000 but can still give you some useful information.

Is your front grill one piece of steel wholly with the front panel, or does the grill separate from the metal front panel?
Some lowlites had all steel front painted panel usually colour of car though I have seen some with the grill part painted off white or a grey colour , which looked original type paint not after thought! If it has a side valve motor , I think it should have chrome or painted hub caps with no "m" in the centre. There was a nickel shortage at one stage and some parts where painted instead of chrome. Hope this help Andy Adelaide South Aust.
