Don't think it infringes any rules, not that ebay care anyway and its not a current v5 anyway, but the inference is there that you could apply for a current V5.

Slightly odd too. States 803 cc engine but originally registered 01/01/1957! (stamp says 31/12/1956) Possible re-import I suppose or a very late SII as the 948 minors were introduced in October 1956.

Anyone provide a link please?

If 1956 S11 APHM engine 6 digits, if 1956 948 APJM 3,4 or poss 5 digits..

Judging by handwriting, either 43xxxx or 45xxxx, but as colour of sump is green - if original engine/6 digit number - more likely to be 43xxxx.

Keep your eye open for ovj 461 in the future, it may make a miraculous come back! How many Minor log books/sheets have their original bodyshells? Not that there is any way of telling!

I really don't see why people get so excited by the sale of log books. what difference does it really make? is it yours there selling? do you know of the log book? does any one you know own the log book?

time to get real people. a log book, is just that. its a piece of paper. if some fool wants to pay a silly price for one, then let them.

I personally have purchased several classic cars in the past and have sold the number plate on for some cash. ive even got back what ive paid for the car in the past. if I see a car with a good plate on for sale and I can make money on it, I don't care, I'm buying it. I have no sentimental reason to keep any plate. my current car is on an age related plate. the original plate that was on it was sold and the car ended up costing me about £25!

on my modern car, I have a personalised plate. this is because I purchased it as it is my initials.

The primary objection to old log books being sold is that they give all the details for less than scrupulous individuals to 'ring' a (possibly stolen) car and give it a new identity, which if accepted by the DVLA then pits potential purchasers at risk as title for lost or stolen vehicles rests with the original owner or insurance company and not the innocent purchaser.

Some will argue 'what is the problem?' as no one would go to this trouble for an old car such as a minor. Given the prices that decent examples are now commanding, this argument is instantly refutable and there is therefore incentive to steal our cars, ring them and sell them on. This is not speculation, it is fact.

It is very easy to get new engine and chassis plates for our cars as a product of the restoration industry that has grown up amidst us. This does not just affect Minors but all classic cars.

I am really happy that my car has its original registration number and buff log book.

I can though understand the commercial drive to sell on old number plates to allow those apparently with more money than sense to have 'personalised' plates on their euro boxes and for you to offset your purchase costs.

Money drives many an action.

Taking the reg from an old car and buying a log book to ring another car really shouldn't be confused even if you are one of these people that doesn't like plates being changed.

I don't believe either I or AMPWHU confused these two.

Going by the number of Minor's that have been stolen and completely disappeared over the years then ringing must be happening, either that or they are being shipped and sold abroad.

Bit of both I think.

I can ramble on and on about checking id plates before parting with cash, but ppl take no heed of my advice....

Ampwhu is talking about obtaining cars to sell on the reg numbers, that's perfectly legal and the cars can live on with an age related reg number, selling the vin and v5c only kills the donor car and probably kills the cloned cars chances of ever being on the road legally again.

The offside rear wing has a high-cut wheelarch. That and the boot-lid reflector may date from 1954 but not much else does. Think I'd give it a miss !!

While I've got no objection to people buying such plates, I do think they should only be from scrapped vehicles or previously un-issued.
People shouldn't be able to trade in something like registration plates. It starts off with someone's initials as written, and then it spreads to all sorts of skulduggery, with illegal alterations.
Let's hope you're not one of those vain types who move the spacing to suit your purposes.......
