Gearlever Rubber Gaiter

Post by owenmorris »

Hi can anybody tell me where I can get a decent Gearlever Rubber Gaiter from as I have fitted two in the last 12 months and they have both split after a short time.
Thanks, Bernard.

Does the gear lever gaiter have to be rubber?
Even the original BMC ones split and had to be changed on a regular basis.
Unless you want absolute originality I would consider fitting a different type/material of gaiter.
For example:-

The original type could be left in place to keep the dirt out and the alternative worked so as to fit under the gaiter holding plate.

Got mine from Bull Motif around five years ago. Had no problems.

You could try a vinyl gaiter from an MG Midget - the Midget had a rubber cover under this, but the rubber cover is bigger than the Minor one. Below I've sat a spare Midget vinyl boot on a Minor gearbox cover.

...or indeed use a rubber lubricant which aeromodellers use for free flight rubber motors. Applied to the inside before fitting , it keeps the material supple.
