This is not a joke.
For info. The DVLA are undergoing a systems upgrade this weekend. Their systems will be off-line from 3pm on Friday 17 August until 6am on Monday 20 August. It will not be possible to tax a vehicle on-line or at a Post Office, or take a vehicle off a SORN, during this period. The call centre will close at 3pm on Friday as well, re-opening at 8am on Monday.
Driving licence services will remain available.
If you are buying a car this weekend from a dealer you won't be able to tax it until Monday and therefore you won't legally be able to drive it. If you're buying privately you may get away with it if the vehicle is still taxed.
No allowance is being made for this, and fines for using an untaxed vehicle will be issued as usual, where detected. ANPR detection will remain in operation too.
Info taken from DVLA website www.dvla.gov.uk and from Auto Express.
