I on the other hand had an earth wire in the body of an electronic distributor rub against the casing enough to cause it to short, break down and burn a portion of the wiring loom out. Back to points with a good set!

Interesting reflections on personal experiences there and, coincidentally, I've sort of met the pair of you half way by fitting a Sparkrite SX4000 which, as you all know, is a 'halfway-house' electronic set up that retains the points as a switching mechanism. First drives suggest marginally smoother running and, possibly, a slight increase in power. The only way a duff condenser can snooker it, apparently, is if it shorts to earth and, even then, disconnection of the condenser will enable the Sparkrite gubbins to resume operations.
