..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps
Here's an interesting article from the online Times which tells how owners of this quintessentially English car are among the most prolific for drink or drug driving offences. I'm shocked that we might have so many bad boys in the club.

Extraordinary! On a more positive note, a girlfriend once showed my an article that claimed that Morris Minor drivers were likely to make the best boyfriends.....
Re: ..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps
Maybe it’s the other way round. Perhaps drivers with bad records buy Morris Minors hoping to get more affordable insurance!

Re: ..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps
If I read that correctly, it states that 4 out of every 1000 Minor drivers stopped were over the drink-drive limit??
Over what period were 1000 Morris Minor drivers stopped and tested?? I have driven a Morris Minor for almost half a century and have never been stopped by the police in one......Let alone been tested for drink or drugs..

I just did not realise I was having that much fun.
I do not normally read the DM, I just picked it up in the family planning clinic, HONEST.

Comment from a friend, who prefers old Jaguars,, ‘Well you wouldn’t want to drive one of those things sober!’

Yes, it does seem a bit unlikely that "four out every 1000 owners of the distinctive car had a drink or drug driving conviction over the past year, the survey by MoneySupermarket found." And how would you even get that figure? Were 1000 Minor drivers stopped last year by the police and tested for drink or drugs? Seems suspect, really.
Who knows?

Should be ok for a nice drive this Christmas; everyone will be keeping out of our way.

Mind you, "33 out of every 1000 drivers" of Panther cars were convicted according to the same article I'd be prepared to bet that there are not 1000 Panther cars existing in the entire British Isles.myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 4:43 pm Yes, it does seem a bit unlikely that "four out every 1000 owners of the distinctive car had a drink or drug driving conviction over the past year, the survey by MoneySupermarket found." Mmm, it does seem that the 'evidence' is starting to build up - I used to own a Panther too!

33 in 1000 is a bit of a coincidence. This is the ratio you would get if you looked at 30 Panther owners and one had a conviction.

Small sample size equals bad data.
I would want to see this study peer-reviewed with a statistical opinion before believing it.
How about the MMOC starting a class action for liable on our behalf ?

Re: ..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps
As I understand it, the data is for convictions declared on insurance application forms. As most Morris drivers tend to do the bulk of their mileage in other cars it is more likely that the offences were committed in their modern motors, so correlating with the number of Minors insured is totally meaningless.

I'd also like to examine their stats and methodology, but of course there are no links to the actual "study" and the articles are pretty much regurgitated press releases from MoneySuperMarket. I hope they charged them for the ad.

Re: ..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps
I had an uncle, greatly missed, when the law made it illegal to drink and drive, he never drove again! I learnt to drive in his car. Sage green Minor.
