Insurance

Post by alawrence10360 »

Had what I thought was a great quote over the phone and duly paid last week when I bought the car.
I knew it was going to be a little tricky as its a saloon with modified engine brakes suspension but finally got it sorted. Or so I thought.
Had a letter today regarding the clutch saying that because the clutch was left as standard the premium was going up £63..
The initial cost was only £80 !!!
Cant wait for the discussion with them tomorrow.
Its actually an uprated clutch which Im willing to bet will also raise the premium

What did you say about the clutch when you first applied for a quote? £80 plus 63 isn’t too bad is it?

Hang on , a 80% rise for a none performance enhancing issue not bad !
I feel a Victor Meldrew moment coming on.
The subject of the clutch was never mentioned on the initial quote. Why would it

Can you let us know who the insurance company is?. £80 for modified sounds good to me.

Mine's a 1098 with a 12G940 head and HIF38 carb, I'm with Lancaster insurance, the actual policy is with a company called Zenith which is £62 but then there is a £45 arraignment fee. I'm going to get a quote off Zenith before I renew next time.

They wouldn’t pull you on a clutch unless you mentioned something about it yourself, would they. If you don’t like it, it’s a free market. I still say £143 is afair price

I agree Les, I would be very weary about being awkward with them, you may find that it's the cheapest out there.

Ok
Contacted the insurance company today.
Spoke to customer service who passed me to the supervisor who spoke to the underwriters...
Fortunately they had taped the initial call and confirmed the clutch was not mentioned during tbe initial quote and that in any case the clutch has no bearing on the policy or the premium.
Apology from all concerned and the original quote now stands.
Just shows a little persistance and common sense can prevail
Well done Adrian Flux Insurer's

My renewal last May for a Series 2, bog-standard except for an un-modified 948cc Minor engine, was £135. It was £96 in 2016, £103 in 2017, by which time I'd moved to a 'better' postcode area!
