What to look out for ... Checklist?

Post by parahandy 15 »

Hello again,
I have been looking at some travellers for sale online and plan to have a look at one or two of them.

On the "Thinking of buying a morris minor" thread on this forum, there is a clickable link, but it shows up as "no input file specified"

Can anyone point me in the direction of a checklist that I could use? Obviously related to minors in particular). Thanks

Check the wood on a traveller that its not spongey or rotten as its expensive to replace .I would have a look at the rear spring hangers behind the back wheels as they collect crud and rot badly and check any metal in that area .The underside needs a good looking at as with all minors suffers from corrosion Floors ,sills, front inner wings etc hope this helps

Check for rust, rust and rust (and wood rot). Minor mechanicals are relatively easy and cheap. Bodywork is a pain.

Ray Newell's Morris Minor & 1000 (Essential Buyer's Guide) is worth picking up.
68' 4-door Saloon, another 'Monty'.

The wood. The wood and then the wood!
The state of the window sliders.
The roof and the guttering.
Rear springs, should be 7 leaf, are they nicely bowed or tired out and flat?
Then rust, as for any Minor (or other old car).
AND... that the car details on the chassis plate tie up with the log book, and that the logbook is in the vendor's name.
