i have a snowberry white saloon, restored by charles ware, which is in very good condition apart from unslightly black streak marks on the white paintwork. ordinary washing does not remove these, and it needs a wax polish to get rid of them, although still needs vigorous rubbing.
it looks to me as though the marks are caused by the rubber window seals running. does this sound a possibility? and does anyone have any ideas how to treat this apart from regular waxing?

I get the same on my white car. It is a bit of a nuisance but the marks come off with a polish. Something like "T cut" might be more effective than a wax polish?

i think you can get a T cut and wax polish all in one, which might do the trick. although if it is the black rubber seal causoing the streaks, maybe there's something that will waterproof these and stop it running.

My white traveller had the black streaks and I used G3 which is similar to T Cut to remove the streaks. Then a good wax coating will make it easier to wash off future marks easier.

Haha thank you, be careful with the G3 if you go down this route as it can be quite abrasive but used on scratches, scuffs and black streaks it works excellent and it is available on Ebay.
The wheels I repainted with brush Hammerite to cover minor impurities in them and then sprayed over with white spray paint for the smoother finish. I get a lot of satisfaction loosing myself in the cleaning of my cars and the results are pleasing too.

Just a couple of things, be aware that Farecla use the name G3 for many products, most of them are only suitable for machine application and as mentioned above, go easy with it as some of them can be very aggressive. If you don’t have a machine polisher then I’d suggest using something less aggressive, it won’t take much to remove the marks that you mention. Secondly, wax and polish are totally different products, polishes remove a tiny amount of paint/lacquer (depending on the paint on your vehicle), wax is a final finish that protects the paint.

This is the finish with machine applied polish (Mazerna 3800), followed by a good wax. Very little paint was removed.

thanks for the advice re the G3, it turns out i have some in an old box full of moggie paraphernalia. but when you advise something less aggressive, do you have a particular product in mind. if so, could you let me know which one?

by the way. the poorboys product referred to actually uses the word on the label. but clearly it's too risque for the MMOC moderator.
by the way. if there had been a product capable of removing an entire datsun cherry, i'm pretty sure it would have been a best seller.

Almost all forums use this sort of thing, and allows us who do 'surf the net' in free time at work to do it without fear of irritating the boss.

I was only being mischievously facetious of course . You should try reading my favourite football club's fans forum!! There is plenty of use of 'ye olde Anglo Saxon' on that site which circumvents the swear filter by all sorts of devious means (eg: use of $ and @ symbols, umlauts etc, etc).

Sometimes these filters are a bit too clever...….My son recently, as part of his work, was asked to source some hardcore i.e. stone/gravel but the company filter would not allow him to search on the tinterweb because 'hardcore' apparently can refer to something quite different
