1968 MM Pick Up Chasss Number help
Hi all ,
New to the Morris Minor scene and have just purchased a 1968 Pick up which I intend to fully restore. He's a pretty sad thing at the moment but I can see it all smart and shining at some point . It a project for me and my son.
So I have no V5C because the previous owner had lost it . I do have a bill of sale and the original number plate number . Asked Mr Google where the chassis number is and all indications is that it should be in the driver side foot well but at some point the floor has been replaced so no chassis number . There is a corroded plate in the engine bay on the main bulk head but this is corroded and painted over. Careful cleaning revealed nothing more that a Morris Minor Corportation nameplate with no visible chassis number.
So am I correct about the chassis number location . I can't see anything stamped into the engine bay bulkhead .
If I apply for a new V5C without the chassis number but with the original registration number and bill of sale will the DVLA accept this ?
Any suggestions or thoughts appreciated .
Thanks ,
Paul

Hello and welcome to the forum.
The chassis number should be on a plate on the passenger side door card along with the axle weights.
I don’t think it is stamped elsewhere like it is with the cars.
Regards John.

The plate referred to above can be seen affixed on the passenger door in the photo below.

Find yourself a friendly garage or car parts factor who have a DVLA link. They will be able to tell you the chassis number for your vehicle if the chassis plate is missing
Strictly speaking, it is the sellers responsibility to provide you with a V5 and he should have applied for one prior to selling it. Otherwise how can he inform the DVLA of the vehicle sale?

Have you checked to see if it is on the DVLA database.

Re: 1968 MM Pick Up Chasss Number help
The plate on the o/s is the BS1965 seatbelt Anchorage details.
Below is 2 holes, on a '68 probably unused.
Have a look down the inside of the n/s dr, sometimes you'll find the plate stuffed down there.
At the top of the n/s b/head there should be a plate - long narrow thing - with 2 sets of numbers, the first set will be "Z35127-34" (1965-1972 civvy LCV), whilst the the 2nd is the important one, provides general build month(s).
The engine, if original, will be prefixed "10MA-U-L", number poss late 200k, early 300k.
If you can provide these numbers, will help.

Re: 1968 MM Pick Up Chasss Number help
Many Thanks for the replies all very helpful.
Searched the passengers door but nothing obvious that I can see but will have another look tomorrow.
I do have the small skinny plate in the engine bay and it is the one marked Z35217-34 C1874 . What does the C1874 referr to ?
Didn't think about the " unofficial route " my brother works in the motor trade so he will be getting a help call soon.
Engine wise it's fitted with a 1800 marina engine
Again thanks again to everyone for the help .

C indicates a civilian commercial vehicle Chris Stevens (Pommreg) will be able to tell you when made from his extensive database
Re: 1968 MM Pick Up Chasss Number help
The potteries branch have compiled a very comprehensive Minor identification list of changes, and other details from various models throughout the years. Could be very useful to Chris for his version.

First 3 digits of chassis nos. will be 242xxx
Used to be a site which would provide the LAST 3.
Would you email me the rego, I may have it.

Re: 1968 MM Pick Up Chasss Number help
Apols, bit behind with everything Morris Minor atm, hope to have an answer to your query shortly.
The C 1874xx (missing last 2 digits) number confirms the build month & its non GPO.
