PM messages not leaving the Outbox

Post by gtt1951 »

Folks,
I've just realised that there are 4 messages, going back many months (include one from today), that haven't moved.
What can be the problem and how does one fix it?

George.

I think that you will find that if the recipient has not opened the PM it will remain in the out box.

I sent one to "Sparesman" last week and it is still sat there, probably for the same reason.

Not good news then as the ones I sent to
Pulmby74 in April,
LouseM in May
and
Cam in July
haven't been read.

The April one can explain why I haven't heard about an offer of parts from Oz.

Unfortunately, if people haven't set their account preferences to receive an email notification, or don't notice the marker next to the notification 'Bell' when they log in, there's nothing to be done about it.

Layout will of course be different on a phone/mobile device and even harder to notice.

Just checked. LouiseM hasn't logged onto the forum/message system since December 2018.

Cam was last on-line here in July (no specific date so maybe before you sent your pm)

CAM shows as: Last active: Fri Jul 26, 2019 3:31 pm

Plumby74 : Last active: Wed Aug 28, 2019 11:13 pm

But if Plumby doesn't know/understand how PMs work, he won't have known what to do.

In the other forum I frequently use, people will often put a Topic Post of 'PM Sent' just to draw attention to it.

To my mind it is a bit of a design flaw with this site to have the Notifications/PMs/Account items at the extreme top above the graphics.
It would be more noticeable if below the graphics, on the same line as the Index functions, or on the bottom of the graphic in line with the FAQ/Search/members/The Team.
Like this mock up I've just made:
