On our previous post we have received lots of help with a charging problem.

However we wondered when semaphore indicators were discontinued

On UK cars, towards the end of 1961. After that, the red rear lights were made to flash as indicators along with clear lights at the front. This is how Morris Minors were equipped for many foreign markets anyway.
This system carried on for about 2 years until the introduction of the larger and much more visible lights with amber portions built in.
Naturally, the later lighting arrangements have been fitted over the years to many earlier cars.
