What a thing to be suing over. Makes me glad to have some of the world’s least valuable classic cars plus a gearbox or two in the shed just in case.
The article doesn’t mention what it did come with, another Ferrari gearbox? A hole in the floor? Or maybe an old Ford Pop three speed and homemade brackets.

I suspect that Fiskin is under pressure from the buyers legal people to provide what he's sold, so he's having to sue the seller. I wonder how much it's worth without the original gearbox?

With most cars of this value and marque every detail of the car is well known and recorded - with engine, gearbox and axle serial numbers being scrutinised in the most detailed way.
Vehicle with all original items are the most sought after and the most valuable especially considering the history of this particular 250GTO.

Not just related to classic cars of course but it never ceases to amaze me how, with transactions such as this, there must have been an original contract of sale drawn up in the first place.
That contract will have probably cost many, many thousands of pounds, drawn up by a team of highly paid lawyers and checked out by another team of highly paid lawyers and STILL such basics like the gearbox and shipping costs etc do not seem to have been 'nailed down'!!
The cynic in me believes that this is done deliberately by these legal eagles so that they can have another slice of the cake when the inevitable dispute arrives.

My heart bleeds for them. You could say that one of them diddled the other out of a gearbox but in order to have that kind of money, of what has the other one diddled other people?
It strikes me that if the car was raced, it may have had bits changed anyway.
Speaking personally and without sour grapes, it wouldn't be on my shopping list, even if I had that kind of money. You have to ask whether the buyer is buying a car, an investment or an outlet for vanity. Between us, my family has four MGs and one Morris and if I was going to add more (I'd need more garage space first), another MG (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_M-type) would be top of the list (Or a Series 1 Morgan 4/4), with a Series 3 Land Rover next and then perhaps an MG Z Type Magnette (I also like the Y Type) or a Mini 1275 Cooper S. I also like the Lotus Elan but then it becomes more of a struggle (I like Rover P4s and some of the Vanden Plas BMC cars). Of the Ferrari range (Though it's really a Dino), my favorite is the 246 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dino_206_GT_and_246_GT .

By meaningless I don’t think they mean it doesn’t exist, rather that we shouldn’t be too pressured about it, and certainly not be slaves to it as so many seem to be nowadays.
