To help resistance to temptation can anyone please give good reasons why I should NOT acquire a Singer Gazelle? (Or a Vogue.)

The Herald estate got me excited - my mum had one of these - and it runs and drives! Now what am I doing on 7th March?

Contagious rust? Yes that would be the Toyota Corona virus.

(I’m sorry I’ll get my coat)

I spotted at least one quite decent Minor split screen, which I've made a note of but suspect will go for more than I have to spare at present, so I don't see how you can just label it all rubbish??...............

I've always fancied a Sunbeam Rapier myself, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between them and the Singer Gazelle, so was it just a case of badge engineering? I think they were both part of the Rootes Group by then but I'm open to correction.

Best wishes,
Mike.

Some of it must be very rare rubbish though...….lot no. 146 is the lesser spotted Austin Ellegro. Really!

Rootes did a lot of badge engineering using the names of all the companies they picked up over the years. Their basic saloon was the Hillman Minx, the Singer had a little more chrome and a better interior, the Sunbeam Rapier was the sporty two door and the Humber Sceptre was top of the range with performance and luxury. They shared engines and numerous other bits.

I had a rusty Rapier fifty years ago and I’m sometimes tempted to try another but the Rapier and Sceptre are a bit pricey nowadays while the Minx and Gazelle are still relatively cheap.

1972, I was in a Herald when it collapsed at 30 mph. There were a lot of sparks. I was in the back,on the way to lectures. We just dumped it and went to the pub.

Our Herald estate had a hole in the passenger side floor - I can still remember the panic when I dropped a gold fish in a bag I'd just won at the fair😧

I just had another look at the link to this sale at Evesham, more lots added, all sorts of treasure. Or possibly rubbish it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

At least I’m no longer tempted by the Singer Gazelle. My son has just acquired an engineless Land Rover which I’m sure will keep us busy for months. :-?

Any one know if there is a list of purchased items from this auction, and what things went for? I’m particularly interested in item 256.
