spotted on ebay....

Post by geoberni »

So I spotted this a little earlier on ebay....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Minor ... SwNIheqdTe

It was the 1st image that caught my eye... No front sidelight/indicator... :-?
I'll copy the image here so this topic makes sense when the listing is ancient history....

I wondered how many options there were to explain the lack of a small light fitting?

What explanations were likely, and what were just ridiculous.

I mean, even if it's a new wing, why would you fill all the pre-cut holes and give it a top colour coat before making any new holes?

Another thing with this image, is that I've never seen that line on the roof pillar before, like some sort of reinforcing.... then I decided it must be the reflection of a fluorescent tube light...

I like the line, "very Solid" then in the next breath " I cut the floor out". :D

The side lights could have been converted to Mini style with the side light incorporated into the headlight which was a common mod at one time.

I considered that (Basil has the integrated side light arrangement), but perhaps unusual to do that and not add indicators, using the space that was left.
Probably what's happened though...

Could be a GRP wing that used to come without any cut-out, and whoever fitted it didn't bother with the hole given trafficators and possibly combined head/side light.

I didn't know the GRP wings came without any holes.

Last time I fitted one (back in days when Minors were just old bangers, I've stuck to steel wings since) they would arrive with indents in the gelcoat where the fixing bolts went into the inner wing, which were easy enough to drill and then expand with a file, but the headlamp hole needed a jig saw. One advantage was that one could drill the holes for the hockey sticks wherever they were needed and not have to do so much jiggling around 8)

Here is a fiberglass front wing without any sidelight holes - brand new as well.

The wheels look unusual to me mine do not have the 4 triangular sections in the centre between wheel nuts
