Vin Plate

Hey all my car was first registered in Jan 1959, but it doesn't have the small oval plate, it's supposed to have the previous style Vin plate. Is this possible?? Or have I been sold something a miss? The body number is 682421 if that helps anyone with build date. But it has the later style of Vin information. Could this go on an older type vin plate? Many thanks guys and gals!

An early 59 would have the larger rectangular VIN plate with a smaller oval one above it.
