Overweight door cards.

Post by Boomlander »

Hi all,
Does anyone have a cure for bulging door cards.
William's are bellying out like twin beer guts.
I imagine the car may have been exposed to damp causing this.
And why are new cards so bloody EXPENSIVE! :o

If they are badly damaged the only viable solution I can think of is finding some good replacements or suitable MDF board and making new, using the old as templates. The trim can easily (but carefully) be removed and an ideal adhesive to stick it back down is sold by Wayside Adhesives. When damp gets in it seems to permanently weaken the fibres of the wood.

I peeled the vinyl covering off then used the remains of the board as a pattern to cut new boards out of 4mm ply, sealed it with varnish on both sides then stuck the vinyl back on with trim adhesive.

Great advice as always, many thanks folks.
The vinyl itself is in perfect condition so I guess I'll make new back cards as described.
👍😁
