Cache of vehicles

Post by sean01597 »

I went into Herefordshire today to meet someone who had various Minors. Seven of them were off the road stored in various barns and he was driving one which was a 2 door 1950s saloon with a 5.1 litre V8 in it.
There were two pick ups, two vans, including a rubber wing ex-GPO one, a ex-police Panda car and two vehicles we could only partially see through the door of one of the barns. There were also loads of spares scattered around. My wife took some photos, which I will upload tomorrow, if I get permission.
Some of them are going to be for sale, as well as various spares.

Good for him! He has saved a good variety of models that are ever decreasing. The V8 is an interesting animal too!

Rural Herefordshire is a old vehicle hideaway.
One garage in the back of beyond I went into a couple of years ago had just sold a comprehensive set of NOS Minor body panels and were in the process of recommissioning a Minor that had been driven into one of their buildings when taken as part exchange for a BMC 1100 many years earlier. There were several other classic/vintage vehicles scattered around as well.

Generally the site is pretty fickle, but the biggest problem these days is people taking images on their phone which are, by default settings, too large.
I usually resize to 1Mb or less and there's usually no problem. Although this random image below is 1.7mb.
You can use the add files and search for the files to add, or use drag and drop.

Really a good idea to use the Place Inline Option as it stops the annoying ATTACHMENT box around the images and it means you can have images and text at different places in the post, rather than all the images being at the end.
If you write something in the File Comment Box, then it appears like this with the image

I hope this helps.

This image I didn't click on [Place inline] so it's by default at the end and it has the ATTACHMENT Frame. It's also 4.63Mb so I'm very surprised it uploaded.

I think there is a good chance it could be a Traveller roof.

Thanks for posting the photos, the pickup looks good, and nice to see an Austin badged van.

What are you going with that top? Do you have the same vehicle where you can install it?

it was just there and as i hadn't seen a pick up rear top like it i wondered about it.

Hi,
It looks like the whole lot wants pulling out and sorting into some kind of order.
The vehicles are what they are but there seems to be a whole load of spares in there too, some of which may prove very useful and could have a value to someone, other items might be fit only for scrap.

The other question on the subject of the vehicles themselves is, does he have / can he find the logbooks for all of them?
I wouldn't touch a vehicle without one, as you then have to fight the DVLA to get it registered.
To me one without a logbook only has value as a donor to save another.
I hope he has a current one for the V8 Minor otherwise it may end up on a 'Q' plate, if it can pass an IVA test.
Best wishes,
Mike.

My Uncle Tom used to have a Hillman Superminx when he was alive, so it's nice to see one, even if is being towed.
I hope it survives and is still ploughing the Queens highway.
Best wishes,
Mike.

he is committed to clearing the barns and i have said i will help. the problem is that someone came and took two vehicles last year aided, he thinks, by someone he knows who lives nearby. it is very difficult to get any vehicles out now.
they were mostly stored in the barns pre 1998 and he has their logbooks, plus two spare. i was hoping to get an idea of the value of some of them as an incentive for him. the panda car looks fairly solid and he is going to sell it.
the V8 i do not know, but it is registered as an historic vehicle and hasn't had a recent MOT.
