Speedometer cable pinion oil seal retainer
I'm replacing the oil seal in the pinion housing, and noticed on both ESM's and Moss Europe's websites there is supposed to be a retainer installed (ESM 9G215, Moss 2A3255), but neither has it available and there wasn't one in my housing when I took it apart. I'm wondering if the oil seal (9G214) is a newer self-retaining type. Anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks!

The retainer 2A3255 (MOSS) should be in place.
Item No: 89 in the link below.

I would suggest that you try and obtain a S/H item or a complete speedo take off assy Pt No: 22A71 (MOSS).
Here is one on 'e' bay and you can see the retainer in place:-

Here is a complete assy:-

Re: Speedometer cable pinion oil seal retainer
Thanks Phil. However, looking at the pic on ebay, I can't see any retainer in place. It just looks like the shoulder of the seal itself in there, like mine.
I've tried to remove the old seal, but perhaps I see now why there was no retainer - the seal is completely stuck in place. There isn't enough of a shoulder to tap it out with a drift from the narrow end, but now trying to dig it out with a hook, I've completely mangled the old seal. Now I have to get it out - but I'm afraid I'll end up damaging the nylon housing if I go any harder at it. Any ideas how to get the old seal out?

Re: Speedometer cable pinion oil seal retainer
You have tried to get the old seal out and that is not working - so personally I would go for broke and fit a good S/H replacement unit making sure that it has the seal and retainer in place.
