Sudden Flurry of 7 year old Notifications

Post by gtt1951 »

Anyone know what is going on?

I haven't had regular updates on any of my watched topics for ages and, suddenly, I get a spate of ones relating to posts last made 7 YEARS ago! :(

George.

Two factors at play: (a) our wonderful IT supplier has got some settings wrong which means that emails sometimes work and sometimes do not. (b) we had a spammer posting loads of rubbish on random posts. I banned the spammer and then deleted the posts. It's possible that they were on your watched topics, so you got notified, but by the time that you looked, the spam had already gone.

Just noticed something - all these replies came from "chbkoiklp457" and arrived on December 9th, but the latest post dates in the topics are NOT his - none of the posts, in any of the 3 topics, are his!
The latest "rear brakes" one was from bmcecosse (rest his soul) on March 4th 2014.

Very curious,

George.

See my explanation above. The name you quote was the spammer.

So sadly not the ghost of 'bmcecosse' dropping by to say hello.....
our wonderful IT supplier has got some settings wrong which means that emails sometimes work and sometimes do not.
At least that explains why I have three messages I thought I'd long sent and simply got no reply to, still sat in my outbox.
Best wishes,
Mike.

No, that's different. You write and send a PM. It remains in your outbox until the intended recipient reads it, at which point it moves to your sent folder. If the recipient never bothers to read the message, then it remains in your outbox until you get bored and delete it. PMs are separate from emails, other than you might get an email to alert you to a waiting PM, but you will see the PM flag when you login to the board, regardless of whether you saw an email or not. Hope that clarifies things.

Thanks for that, the messages were me trying to be helpful but if people can't be bothered I'll delete them.
Best wishes,
Mike.
