Square axle type diff wanted!

Postby Mark.T » Wed Oct 09, 2019 8:58 pm

Hi All,
New to here. I have a 9/41 crown wheel and pinion. I am looking for a 9/38 crown wheel for a square type axle. Year is not important - it's for a project. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Mark

Not quite sure what you mean by a 'square type' axle. Could you please enlarge.

There are always 9/38 (4.22) diff assy for sale on 'e' bay.

Hi All,
The one I need is not from the banjo axle - it has a square casting and the axle is split horizontally. Hope this helps

Thank you for the reply - your request now makes sense.

I do not know if you will be lucky or not with finding the parts for the above axle but the usual way to improve the rear axle ratio is to replace the axle assembly with the later 948cc/1098cc axle assy which gives you a better choice of axle ratios.

Thanks for the info you have given. I need to find a 38 crown wheel for that axle - if there is such a thing.

This axle was fitted up to 1953 so you must have a Series MM or Series 2 Minor which so far as I know were only fitted with a 5.375 diff. We have some axles at the club premises in Derby with those diffs.
