Yes I know I can buy a modern replacement ....but do they do the spring so I can reuse my original and will save me having to try winding my own spring from piano wire?

Maybe Bryan Gostling will come to my rescue......I tried emailing but got my message returned....

Im looking for a spring for one of these or a complete striker plate.
You could buy the complete plate assembly as suggested and take the spring out to put in your original; or you could search for "small compression spring", taking the dimensions and force required from your existing spring; or, as you say, wind you own.

I have a good selection of springs stashed away.

If you tell me the following details I will see if I have one suitable that I can send you.

Outside Diameter
Overall Length
Wire Diameter
Number of Full Turns

As the spring retaining plate is held in place by peening over the two stubs on the underside of the main body of the catch.
How do you intend to hold the spring retaining plate in position?
To remove the spring retaining plate the peening of the stubs has to be removed and there is not much to the stubs to start with.

Short 4ba brass CSK screws Phil or may be even small ss CSK selftap.....theres plenty of meat there for drilling and tapping and the plates were both already sheared off hence the need for one spring which the previous owner must have lost...or put in one of his boxes of parts......

He was obsessed with dismantling.. Im still trying (and struggling) to reassemble the stainless door trims that has had all the rivets and screws removed....despite being in near new condition........
