Highway Yellow Convertible?

A long shot I know but...

I am considering acquiring a convertible and have concluded the best colour is also the rarest. (I read that only 700 saloons/convertibles were made in Highway Yellow). Do these ever come up for sale and if so where? Or is it unfortunately best to respray a convertible of another colour if you really want a Highway Yellow one. If you don’t ask, you don’t get…

As you say, an original Highway Yellow convertible would be a very rare thing. I can only recall seeing one in all the years I've owned Morris Minors and that was some years ago. I know that Richard and Vera Newton (Newton Commercial) own a convertible that colour but the colour is not original to the car and you might also have to follow that route of respraying a suitable car. Highway Yellow was only offered for a short period in the early 1960s and was not popular among the conservative buyers of new Morris Minors. Most Minors I have seen of that colour have been 4door saloons and I was once told that Birds Foods, the custard manufacturers, had a small fleet of them but have never been able to confirm this! I think the colour option ended at about the same time as the 1098cc engine was introduced and I think every original car I have seen of that colour was a 948cc car with a blue and cream duotone interior. There are one or two forum members who own Highway Yellow Minor saloons.

As for where such a car might come up for sale - I suppose that depends on where an owner decides to advertise it. I would probably place a "wanted" ad in Minor Matters and contact a few Morris Minor specialists - and keep an eye open for advertisements on ebay, "classic cars for sale" and "car and classic" websites. The chances of finding an original one are slim, but you never know ......

Thanks, yes, I will place an ad in Minor Matters. The other colour that is rare and that I have never seen a convertible in is porcelain green - did they even make them in convertibles? I have seen a few saloons around and that is a nice colour too...
