testing horn, out of car

Post by wibble_puppy »

hi all,

before I put the horn back into the van I'd like to test it to make sure it makes a noise.

How do I do this? I know which of the terminals were connected when it was in the van, but not which terminal was connected to which terminal of the battery; nor whether it was powered by direct feed from the battery or whether it went through any sort of relay or modulator.

Can I just stick a wire on each terminal of the horn and touch them to the poles of the battery? or do I risk blowing something (no pun intended - sorry  )

Yes.

There's no relays or anything as standard, just a pos to the horn, and a wire that runs up the steering column and is earthed through the push. So there's no problems just wiring it to a battery, other than the noise!

if you use a battery, it should be fine. If you test with a battery charger it might not work (the regulated DC isn't usually clean and that can cause some parts not to work.)

Point it away from you though cos it will sound loud - Oh, and it might jump around as well so test it on the floor.

Umm, just a sec Wibble, you have perhaps one of the most distinctive 'minor's out there and you are shy about it?

Run that by me once again.........?

well i just can't make up my mind whether painting it that colour was one of the worst decisions I've ever made, or a dream come true. Won't really know till I'm pootling about in it and have got used to it, I guess :)

I missed the picture you posted. That looks amazing! The more eyecatching and appealing we make minors the longer they will be around.

Kudos to you sir!
