testing horn, out of car

hi all,

before I put the horn back into the van I'd like to test it to make sure it makes a noise.

How do I do this? I know which of the terminals were connected when it was in the van, but not which terminal was connected to which terminal of the battery; nor whether it was powered by direct feed from the battery or whether it went through any sort of relay or modulator.

Can I just stick a wire on each terminal of the horn and touch them to the poles of the battery? or do I risk blowing something (no pun intended - sorry

)

Yes.

There's no relays or anything as standard, just a pos to the horn, and a wire that runs up the steering column and is earthed through the push. So there's no problems just wiring it to a battery, other than the noise!

if you use a battery, it should be fine. If you test with a battery charger it might not work (the regulated DC isn't usually clean and that can cause some parts not to work.)

well i just can't make up my mind whether painting it that colour was one of the worst decisions I've ever made, or a dream come true. Won't really know till I'm pootling about in it and have got used to it, I guess
