Not charging!

Post by MorrisMartin »

The ignition light stays on all the time and the battery drains. I have replaced the dynamo with another one but that could be dead as I got it out of a scrap yard. The light does not get dimmer as engine speed increases, it is bright all the time.

hello MM,
there's a good chance that the voltage regulator is defective.
A quick bench test for a dynamo is to connect both terminals together then apply twelve volts to the terminals and earth, it should run like a motor, if it does it is functional.

Check the polarisation on the dynamo too. Full details in any manual.
